Community thrives because of the people within

When you think about what makes a community thrive, it’s not policies or buildings that come to mind first, it’s people. People who volunteer, people who give, people who turn up. Last weekend I saw that spirit twice in a single day: at the first Nippers session of the season in Kiama and at the Jamberoo Car Show & Family Day. Two very different events, one common thread: community at its best. On Sunday morning, I joined hundreds of kids, parents and volunteers for the first Nippers session of the season at Kiama Surf Life Saving Club. These Nippers are learning skills that will stay with them for life. Nippers isn’t just about surf awareness and beach confidence, it’s about teamwork and building a stronger community. With summer just around the corner, I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone to be safe in and around the water. Tragically, last season we saw too many drownings across NSW. Our surf lifesavers, both volunteer and professional,  » Read More

Ex-MLB President Turns On Dave Roberts Over Controversial Clubhouse Shakeup After …

Credit: IMAGO ©Credit: IMAGO “We haven’t found our rhythm….It sort of draws dead at certain parts of the lineup. I’m going to think long and hard, and it might look different tomorrow.” After the loss at Game 4, Dave Roberts hinted that a change was coming for Game 5. The manager reshuffled his lineup to reignite the team’s offense. Yet, the Dodgers fell 6-1 to the Blue Jays. Former MLB president David Samson noticed the situation and did not stop to criticize Roberts for his strategic failure. On Nothing Personal with David Samson, the host remarked, “Dave Roberts announced that he had made a lineup change. Turns out Andrew Friedman had nothing to do with it. He got to the ballpark and got a text alert from MLB.com that had his lineup in it — and had Mookie Betts moving down to the three hole. Unbelievable.” Samson then added, “Ohtani stayed at one. Will Smith batted second. They moved Mookie Betts up to three and then Freeman a cleanup.  » Read More

French football club bans its own fans – WRS

News Home More from Bitesize News Thursday, 30 October 2025 06:30 US Culoz clubhouse (c) Google Maps An amateur football club in France has had enough of its own fans. US Culoz, which plays in the Ain department‘s second division, will now hold all its home games behind closed doors.  The move comes after a violent incident last Sunday, when a group of teenage supporters attacked an opposing coach and even one of their own officials, leaving him with serious injuries.  The club admits it’ll lose bar revenue, but says it’s still cheaper than paying fines for repeated trouble in the stands by its own fans.   » Read More

Jamberoo Action Park to lodge new DA with Kiama Council over controversial car plan

Jamberoo Action Park. Photo: Destination Kiama Jamberoo Action Park will be lodging a new Development Application that includes additional information requested by Kiama Council after its initial plan to use its car park in its low season was rejected. Representatives of the Action Park and Council met on Tuesday to discuss the recent Development Application regarding the use of the existing car park area. The Park had been using its car park as a holding yard for imported cars during the off-peak season. The vehicles in question are BYDs - a Chinese manufacturer which has gained significant traction in the Australian market in recent years and are built as electric vehicles. Council and the Action Park on Wednesday issued a joint statement to say "both parties are committed to working together constructively and transparently to ensure the best outcomes for the community and local businesses, while adhering to all planning regulations". Council will consider this application before any further compliance action is taken. Both parties "appreciate the community’s interest in this matter and look forward to a positive and collaborative outcome".  » Read More

Golf’s Ability To Create Stars Is Imperative No Matter What A New PGA Tour Looks Like

Outgoing commissioner Jay Monahan has used a form of this word — regenerate — twice in the last two years. It got lost amid topics like private equity investments and a pathway back for LIV Golf players, and even turning over the helm to a new CEO. But it’s what the PGA Tour can’t afford to lose as it tries to create a bold, new model. “We consistently as an organization regenerate talent and create stars,” Monahan said at The Players Championship in 2024, when negotiations with the Saudi backers of LIV Golf were still ongoing with far more hope for a deal than there is now. And then in August at the Tour Championship, where Monahan held his last press conference while introducing Brian Rolapp as the CEO, he mentioned 11 first-time winners on the PGA Tour and paused ever so briefly for emphasis. “Further proof that talent regeneration is alive and well on the PGA Tour,” he said. That number is now up to 15 first-time PGA Tour winners this year.   » Read More

Ex-wife of Angels employee says she saw players party with pills during trial over pitcher’s death

SANTA ANA, Calif. — The ex-wife of a Los Angeles Angels employee at the center of the overdose death of one of its star pitchers testified in a civil trial Monday that she saw players and clubhouse attendants passing pills and alcohol while partying on the team plane. Camela Kay told jurors in a Southern California courtroom she had traveled on the Angels team plane with her then-husband Eric Kay, who was convicted of providing drugs that led to the 2019 death of Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs, and seen players partying, playing card games, gambling and drinking. “They're treated like kings,” Camela Kay said of her observations on the plane. “I had seen them passing out pills or drinking alcohol excessively.” The testimony came in a trial for a wrongful-death lawsuit filed by Skaggs’ family contending the Angels should be held responsible for letting a drug-addicted and dealing team communications director stay on the job and access its players. The Angels have said team officials did not know Skaggs was taking drugs and that any drug activity involving him and Kay happened on their own time and in the privacy of the player’s hotel room.  » Read More
