GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A rehabilitation program in Grand Rapids aims to give those struggling with mental illness a community and a sense of purpose. The Sheldon Clubhouse is an “evidence-based, psycho-social rehabilitation model program,” Associate Director Tara VanDyke said. “Essentially, it’s a community-based program specifically for those living with a significant mental health diagnosis — schizophrenia, bipolar, major depression — meeting a variety of needs that aren’t really met elsewhere in our mental health system,” she continued. She said the program offers a sense of community and support with others who have similar experiences. Participants can work toward their goals for education or employment. Tormented Minds, Broken System: Gaps in mental health care before violence Clubhouse member Leasa told News 8 said before she joined the program, she felt very alone. She said she didn’t have friends or family to support her and was in and out of mental health facilities. “It was a very, very tough, dark time,” she said. Eventually,  » Read More

TORONTO — A pile of cardboard signs sat in the centre of the Toronto Blue Jays clubhouse, each emblazoned with a name. Between hugs and stifled tears, players walked up to sift through them. An hour after their season came to a devastating end on Saturday, with a 5-4 loss in 11 innings to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Jays wrote the final few signatures on each clubhouse nameplate. They’ll look up at those nameplates in a decade, reading “2025 World Series” written in stylized golden lettering. The signs will rest in basements and on mantles for years, collecting dust. But when they catch an eye, memories of a magical season will flood back. They’ll remind Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette of their rebound from 74 wins a year ago to a division title and the World Series stage. They’ll prompt recollections from Kevin Gausman and George Springer. They’ll remember leading the league with 49 comeback victories, or the timeless October homers, or 10 postseason victories, more than any team in franchise history. But then,  » Read More

Three years ago, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen gifted locally crafted luxury wristwatches to other world leaders at the time, including Joe Biden, during a regional summit in Phnom Penh. Each Lotus Tourbillon timepiece was emblazoned with 25 jewels, with the crown-shaped logo of Cambodian conglomerate Prince Holding Group etched into its components. After accepting the watch, Biden transferred it to the US National Archives along with items with a combined value of US$1,790. The gifts, designed and assembled by a watchmaking school started by Prince Group, show how the enterprise and its China-born chairman Chen Zhi entered into the upper echelons of global influence. The 37-year-old worked meticulously to cultivate an image of legitimacy and even philanthropy and built connections with important people and organisations. He accumulated properties ranging from a London office building to luxury apartments in Singapore and Taiwan, and oversaw a business empire that stretched from the beaches of Palau to the financial hub of Hong Kong. That reach is now rapidly unravelling, after US and UK authorities in mid-October accused Chen and his network of running a transnational criminal ring that operated scam centres using forced labour and laundered billions of US dollars

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Clayton Kershaw is retiring as a three-time World Series champion. More news: Dodgers Win World Series Over Blue Jays in 11 Innings in Dramatic Game 7 On Saturday, after the final game of his Hall of Fame career, he sent a message to his Dodgers teammates in the clubhouse. “It’s an absolute honor to be in this clubhouse with you guys,” Kershaw said. “I love every single one of you. I can’t imagine a better way to go out than to pop bottles with this group of guys.” Kershaw officially rides off into the sunset as a back-to-back winner. He played a critical role in the Dodgers’ 2025 season, making 23 appearances in the regular season and sporting a 3.36 ERA across 112.2 innings. He then made two postseason appearances, including one in Game 3 of the World Series, where he got the final out in a based loaded jam in the 12th inning en route to their 18-inning win. You have two options. The first is to get up, book a class in a gym, take your car out, navigate Bengaluru’s notorious traffic, search desperately for parking in Indiranagar (good luck with that), then rush to clock in at your gym. And then sweat it out. The second: You send a WhatsApp message to your personal trainer, he turns up at the gym in your building, you walk down to the clubhouse. And then sweat it out. The choice for Ajay (named changed), CEO of a startup in Bengaluru, was pretty easy. While he loved the vibe, the curated playlists, the energetic trainers, HRX group classes and strength & conditioning, as well as the app that let him book sessions easily, as soon as he moved to his new apartment in Whitefield with a decently equipped gym, yoga room and a squash court, he changed his routine, and ended his membership of Cult.fit, a fitness startup that has a chain of gyms. Ajay, 41, hired a freelance personal trainer,  » Read More

When you think about what makes a community thrive, it’s not policies or buildings that come to mind first, it’s people. People who volunteer, people who give, people who turn up. Last weekend I saw that spirit twice in a single day: at the first Nippers session of the season in Kiama and at the Jamberoo Car Show & Family Day. Two very different events, one common thread: community at its best. On Sunday morning, I joined hundreds of kids, parents and volunteers for the first Nippers session of the season at Kiama Surf Life Saving Club. These Nippers are learning skills that will stay with them for life. Nippers isn’t just about surf awareness and beach confidence, it’s about teamwork and building a stronger community. With summer just around the corner, I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone to be safe in and around the water. Tragically, last season we saw too many drownings across NSW. Our surf lifesavers, both volunteer and professional,  » Read More
