16-year-old dies after shooting near Clayton neighborhood clubhouse

A Clayton County police officer decided to tread carefully over the weekend while responding to a shooting that left a teenage boy dead, according to an incident report obtained Monday. The officer had been flagged down by one of the victim’s friends Saturday night at a neighborhood clubhouse at the intersection of Paladin Drive and Trafalgar Way near Hampton, where 16-year-old Zion Barrett was found shot in the nearby bushes, the report stated. “I went around the other side of the clubhouse to ensure no individuals were hiding, in case of a possible ambush,” the officer wrote in the report. The officer met with a teenage witness, who said he was with Barrett and another friend at the nearby intersection of Starling Trail and Paladin Drive when they saw about five lasers shining from the side of a residence, followed by gunfire. The Northern Irishman made a 28-foot eagle putt on the final hole to force a playoff, then sealed his second Irish Open win with a birdie on the third hole of the playoffs against Sweden’s Joakim Lagergren on Sunday. “I just feel so lucky that I get to do this in front of these people, the support has been amazing all week,” McIlroy said. “So happy I could play the way I did this week and get the win.” McIlroy and Lagergren each shot 6-under 66s on Sunday. Plans to tackle existential threat to cricket club approved | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

A CRICKET clubhouse can host services for disabled adults after councillors were told one long running club faced an “existential threat” to its future. When permission was granted for a new clubhouse at Bolton Villas Cricket Club on All Alone Road in 2006, one condition was that the building could only host events linked to the club. But amid declining membership and tightening finances, the club has recently looked at other ways of utilising the building. The club applied to Bradford Council to lift the restriction so the clubhouse can also be used by an organisation that works with adults with disabilities. At a meeting of the Bradford Planning Panel on Wednesday members voted to approve the change. The application said: “The proposed extension of use will allow for modest, community focused activities specifically for members of the community who need person-centred care and support, at times outside of match days to ensure the site remains vibrant and financially sustainable. “The current membership has changed in terms of diversity and communities where alcohol provision is not the main social activity.  » Read More
