Troy Merritt Loses His PGA Tour Card And Gains Air Miles Playing A Full European Tour Schedule

Troy Merritt didn’t get into the Procore Championship until Monday, only his sixth start this year on the PGA Tour. Just don’t get the idea that he’s had a lot of idle time. Most of that time is spent in the air. Merritt played the Omega European Masters in Switzerland and the Irish Open before heading to Napa. He left Sunday night for Paris to play in the French Open. Still to come are tournaments in Scotland, India and South Korea. This was the best way to get in a full schedule for someone who finished at No. 143 in the FedEx Cup last year. Merritt, Brandon Wu and Martin Trainer have taken advantage of a category on the European tour that provides up to five spots for players who finished between No. 126 and 200 in the FedEx Cup the previous year. They had until Dec. 19 to sign up. “It’s been nice,” Merritt said at the Procore Championship, where he closed with a 76 and tied for 53rd.  » Read More

Astros’ Alvarez sprains ankle after awkward step on home plate – theScore.com

Houston Astros outfielder Yordan Alvarez exited Monday's game against the Texas Rangers with a left ankle sprain after stepping awkwardly on home plate during the first inning. Alvarez could barely make it down the dugout stairs before heading into the clubhouse, according to The Athletic's Chandler Rome. Jesús Sánchez, who started in right, moved to left field. The slugger exited the Astros' clubhouse on crutches and with his foot in a walking boot. He will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, manager Joe Espada said after the Astros beat the Rangers 6-3. The 28-year-old Alvarez entered Monday with six home runs, 27 RBIs, and a .794 OPS across 47 games. Houston is a half-game behind the Seattle Mariners for top spot in the AL West.  » Read More

If Singapore’s first private luxury senior housing takes off, will more developers get in this space?

SINGAPORE – When Singapore’s first private assisted living home, Perennial Living, opens in the first quarter of 2026, its take-up rate will be closely watched by other developers looking to get into this space, as well as by seniors hoping for a more wallet-friendly version. The 200-apartment project in Parry Avenue comes with private lift access, sky terraces, a clubhouse with dining and lifestyle amenities, personal concierge services, and a rehabilitation, medical and wellness centre. Costing between $8,900 and $17,000 a month, depending on room type and required care, Perennial Living is aimed at well-heeled seniors over the age of 65.  If the luxury project is well-subscribed, more developers may pivot towards the fast-growing elderly demographic in Singapore. But given the high costs of acquiring land, as well as high construction and labour costs, developers will likely end up building high-end senior living facilities to cover costs and profit margins. All these costs are then passed on to seniors. That means that only a small and well-off segment of Singaporeans,  » Read More

Scottie Scheffler Warms Up For Ryder Cup By Winning For The 6th Time This Year

NAPA, Calif. (AP) — Scottie Scheffler wanted to stay sharp ahead of the Ryder Cup and the world’s No. 1 player looked every bit of that Sunday, closing with a 5-under 67 to win the Procore Championship for his sixth PGA Tour victory of the year. Scheffler made up a two-shot deficit on Ryder Cup teammate Ben Griffin, who was poised to force a playoff until he three-putted the par-5 18th from 60 feet for par to finish one behind. Griffin, who started the final round with three straight birdies, shot a 70. He had a birdie putt from 5 feet on the 18th that caught the left edge and spun away. It was the second time this year he has finished runner-up to the world’s No. 1 player. Scheffler was one of the players who earlier in the year targeted the Procore Championship as a good spot for the Ryder Cup team to play so they could avoid the mistake of two years ago when all but two of them had a month off before the Rome matches.  » Read More

Ending Mariners’ 20-year title drought may take mustaches, ‘Etsy witches’ | king5.com

At least a handful of players and scores of fans have been spotted recently with mustaches. Some in the clubhouse believe the facial hair has playoff power. SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners are on an eight-game winning streak and are tied with the Houston Astros for the division lead. With the franchise seeking its first pennant since 2001, fans and players are leaning on superstition to help push them over the finish line. At least a handful of players and scores of fans have been spotted recently with mustaches. Some in the clubhouse believe the facial hair has playoff power. “Once there were more mustaches in the locker room, we’ve been winning, so it’s got to have some power,” pitcher Bryce Miller said. “I heard the other day they’re trying to give credit to Cal. I don’t know what that’s about. He’s got enough credit all year. I’ve had this stash since college, so I’m thinking it’s me. It’s mainly the only thing I can grow, so that’s my only option.” Reliever Andres Muñoz said the ritual helps unify the team.  » Read More

Rose vows to put the ‘hammer down’ in quest for first BMW Championship – SportyTV App

Justin Rose insisted he will put the "hammer down" over the weekend in his quest for a maiden BMW PGA Championship following his sensational second round.  Rose, who is making his 20th appearance at the tournament, sits tied for second alongside Ryder Cup team-mates Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg at 11 under.  Hideki Matsuyama leads the way after the first 36 holes at Wentworth club following rounds of 67 and 66, with Spaniard Pablo Larrazabal also right in the mix.  Hovland had set the initial clubhouse target after closing his bogey-free second round with a stunning 45-foot eagle at the par-five last, causing wild scenes from spectators.  However, Rose moved alongside him after matching the Norwegian's 66 before Matsuyama chipped in for eagle on 17 on his way to carding an eight-under round of 64.  Since his debut in 2001, Rose has recorded five top ten finishes at the tournament, including a play-off defeat to Denmark's Anders Hansen in 2007. But he is out to put those near-misses behind him this year,  » Read More
