US Open Tennis Champs Alcaraz, Federer And Nadal Love Golf. Golfers Say … – SwingU Clubhouse

NEW YORK (AP) — Carlos Alcaraz is among the tennis stars getting into the swing of things at the U.S. Open. A golf swing, that is. After his first-round victory at Flushing Meadows this week, the five-time Grand Slam champion used his racket to pantomime using a club on the course — perhaps a nod to one of the spectators in the stands at Arthur Ashe Stadium that night, golf star Rory McIlroy. Plenty of athletes eyeing a trophy on the hard courts of New York, including the person Alcaraz beat in the 2022 men’s final, Casper Ruud, and 2024 women’s runner-up Jessica Pegula, are swapping fuzzy yellow tennis balls for dimpled white golf balls as a way to relax. So are past tennis greats such as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Alcaraz and Ruud sometimes travel on tour with their clubs. Even during Wimbledon last month — when he famously went golfing with Andy Murray on off days — and while preparing to go to the U.S.  » Read More

Planning board approves new clubhouse for country club | Local News | laconiadailysun.com

LACONIA — The Laconia Country Club won an essential approval from the city’s Planning Board at their meeting on Aug. 5, paving their way for an upcoming rebuild of the clubhouse on the property. The country club, located on Elm Street, proposed the demolition of an existing clubhouse on their property and the forthcoming construction of a new, two-story structure with improved views of the golf course. “What we’re here for tonight is the replacement of the existing clubhouse and pro shop building at Laconia Country Club on Elm Street,” David Sherborne, architect and vice president at Opechee Construction, said. Once the new clubhouse is constructed, the existing clubhouse will be demolished and the parking lot expanded, increasing the number of available parking spaces from 73 to 98. The new building will connect to municipal water and sewer, and will include a new fire protection supply and an exterior grease interception tank. “A big advantage for the club is that now all entrances on both entrances will be ADA-compliant, and there will be an elevator inside the building that does currently not exist,” Sherborne said.   » Read More

Rahm And Legion XIII Outlast DeChambeau And The Crushers In The LIV Golf Team Final

Tour August 24, 2025 - 9:19 pm EDT 2 hours ago PLYMOUTH, Mich. (AP) — Jon Rahm and Legion XIII outlasted Bryson DeChambeau and the Crushers in a playoff Sunday in the LIV Golf League team final. Legion XIII rallied to match the Crushers at 20 under at The Cardinal at Saint John’s, with the Stinger squad from South Africa well back at 12 under in three-team final. Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton each birdied the final two holes of regulation, then ended the playoff with a pair of birdies on the second extra hole against DeChambeau and Paul Casey. Rahm made a 6-footer and Hatton had a short putt for the deciding birdies. “Tyrrell and I got it going a little late, but better late than never,” Rahm said. “When it came to the playoff, I felt fairly confident we’re both really good wedge players, and if we just put it in the fairway, I was fairly confident we were going to give ourselves a lot of chances.” Caleb Surratt led Legion XIII with a 64,  » Read More

Tommy Fleetwood Wins Tour Championship For First PGA Tour Title And FedEx Cup

Tommy Fleetwood of England ended a summer of heartache with the richest prize on the PGA Tour, winning the Tour Championship on Sunday for his first tour title to capture the FedEx Cup and its $10 million reward. Fleetwood got plenty of help at the start when Patrick Cantlay began bogey-double bogey and could never catch up. Scottie Scheffler hit his opening tee shot out-of-bounds and still was a threat until a tee shot into the water ended his hopes on the 15th. Through it all, Fleetwood held his nerve. He closed with a 2-under 68 for a three-shot victory over Cantlay (71) and Russell Henley (69). “I’ve been a PGA Tour winner for a long time, it’s just always been in my mind,” Fleetwood said. “A lot of close calls, but I’ve always enjoyed the challenge.” His first PGA Tour victory came with two trophies — the FedEx Cup and the “Calamity Jane” replica putter for the Tour Championship. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley was within one shot of the lead on the front nine but wound up with a 70 to tie for seventh.  » Read More
