Covering The Bases with WooSox reliever Austin Adams – Spectrum News

On this week's Covering The Bases, Spectrum News 1's Kevin Shea sat down with Worcester Red Sox reliever Austin Adams. Adams recalled his Major League debut. Despite a rough outing on the mound, it was a memorable day for Adams' family. "Yeah, really one that I tried to, well I tried to forget about, but now that I've actually had some success in the big leagues and stuff. I didn't record it out, wasn't the best. But I do remember, so my mom is from the Cincinnati area, I debuted against the Cincinnati Reds, so a lot of my family got to see it, and she got to see it too, so that was really cool." Life as a reliever in professional baseball is a unique experience. Adams revealed what his routine is on game day. "I would say the first two or three innings, it's going to change for each person depending on if they're a long reliever or not, but for me specifically, I'm kind of walking around and loosening up around like that third to fourth inning,  » Read More

by The Associated Press Jun 26, 5:23 PM Dustin Bradford / Getty Images Sport / Getty DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Rockies have promoted the oldest son of team owner Dick Monfort amid one of the worst starts in baseball history. Walker Monfort was named executive vice president of the Rockies on Thursday and will immediately begin leading the team alongside outgoing President and COO Greg Feasel, who is stepping down at the end of this year after 30 seasons in their front office, the team announced. The Rockies went into Thursday's home game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with an 18-62 record. Colorado's 81st game marked the midpoint of its regular season. Walker Monfort, 38, who had been the team’s vice president of corporate partnerships since 2015, will officially assume Feasel's responsibilities by January. Feasel joined the Rockies in 1995 as vice president of sales and marketing. He was promoted to executive vice president and chief operating officer in 2010 and club president in April 2021. “Greg has been a pillar of this organization since its earliest days,” Rockies owner Dick Monfort said.  » Read More

Astros’ Jose Altuve leads an accepting clubhouse culture – The Sporting News

The Houston Astros have one of baseball's best teams in 2025, and there has been a lot of turnover throughout the roster. Whether it's due to players struggling in the Majors and getting sent down, or injuries piling up, the Astros have had a lot of players come and go this season. But they've stayed afloat and even thrived. Thanks in large part due to the great culture the team has built. According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, that culture is led by veteran second baseman Jose Altuve. "Culture is something that's hard to define," Rome writes. "But the Astros have it. Altuve is the main character and catalyst. Maybe the best way to distill it is this: Players who come from other organizations always marvel at how welcoming Houston's clubhouse is." That welcoming vibe and characterization of the Astros' culture is centered around Altuve. The veteran has been around plenty of different teams in his career. From bottom feeders to World Series contenders, Altuve has seen it all in the Astros' clubhouse.  » Read More

J.J. Spaun’s Path To U.S. Open Title Helped By A Shot Onto An Umbrella

CROMWELL, Conn. (AP) — J.J. Spaun knows as well as anyone how one little shot can make such a huge difference, even if it’s only 85 yards to a green in the shape of a red umbrella floating in the middle of a lake. It wasn’t a shot that won the U.S. Open. Spaun will be remembered far more for the driver he hit onto the 17th green at Oakmont to take the lead, and for the 65-foot putt on the last hole to cap off his sensational birdie-birdie finish at golf’s toughest test. This shot was five years ago at the Travelers Championship. It was no less important to Spaun, who has Type 1 diabetes but didn’t know it at the time. “It’s crazy,” said Andy Bessette, the executive vice president and chief administrative officer at Travelers Insurance, and a familiar face behind the tournament. “Not everything in life is for a reason, but at times you have to step back and think it’s too weird it happened that way.” A 15-year tradition at the Travelers is “The Umbrella at 15 1/2 Challenge,” where players during the pro-am hit an 85-yard shot at the umbrella that sits in the lake between
