Read moreDetails(NEXSTAR) – Facebook users still have a few weeks to claim their piece of a $725 million settlement Meta agreed to pay to resolve a lawsuit. Ex-Facebook users can get in on the action too, as long as they meet a few criteria. The main requirement is that you had a Facebook account for any time between May 24, 2007, and Dec. 22, 2022. You also need to have been a United States resident during that period of time. Even people who deleted their Facebook account qualify – they’re just likely to see a smaller payout. How big your check ends up being depends in part on how long your account was active. People have until Aug. 25, 2023 to file a claim, either online or by mail. After the deadline passes, a judge will need to give the settlement final approval. That hearing is set for Sept. 7. If the settlement gets the final OK, it’s not yet clear when the payments will be sent out – but you might not need to wait for a check in the mail. » Read More

Taking to social media site Threads, Mr Moskovitz said that people often argue that Mr Musk makes up for his antics through the value his companies bring to the world, however, he added that he is not sure the billionaire's success is legitimate. "The point is I don't really see these companies as dispensating impact, or at least don't give nearly as much credit to him as others do," Mr Moskovitz said. "If they were really built on outward lies, rather than just self-deceptions (rose-colored glasses), then we should really see them as scams he got away with," he added. In his post, Mr Moskovitz said that he believes that Mr Musk accelerated the development of electric vehicles (EVs) by one to two years at most and he also stated that the Tesla CEO might have actually delayed it by "overpromising". » Read More

Mark Mechikoff, 39, of Pacifica, was arrested after a five-hour manhunt Wednesday for killing 41-year-old Claribel Marie Estrella in San Mateo, local police said. San Mateo police said they got a call around 4 p.m. from the Nye County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada to report a 911 call from a local resident who said they’d seen a stabbing on Facebook — and provided the name and phone number of the user who’d uploaded the graphic recording. “Mechikoff mercilessly filmed the last moments of the victim’s life and posted the video to Facebook, then fled the area,” San Mateo police said. Ryan Lenahan, a childhood friend of Mechikoff, told KTVU that he also saw the sick video when it popped up on his Facebook feed. “There was a person bleeding out, standing over the person, » Read More
