Why is the Facebook 'like' button pink?JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Facebook has turned its “like” button pink for users in the U.S. The online social media and social networking service has not publicly said why, but Newsweek confirmed that Facebook changed the button for Mother’s Day. The like button changed for some users, noting that the usual blue circle with a white thumbs up in the middle changed to a flower with pink petals, and the white thumbs up at its center.The change is only visible in the U.S. because the holiday falls on a different date in other countries, Newsweek said. For three decades, developer Alan Shuman drove by the former Horatio Trexler Mansion at Fifth and Franklin streets.He wondered what was going to become of the deteriorating 19th century building at 46 S. Fifth St. that housed an Elks lodge for several decades."I had been driving by it for 30 years and I hoped someone would do something with it," Shuman said Friday in an interview. "All of a sudden we could."Shuman Development Group announced that it had purchased the building on Tuesday. Shuman said the company paid Our City Reading $125,000 for the 27,000-square-foot structure along with some fixtures.The building, which was built in 1869, was purchased by Reading Elks Lodge in 1904 and renovated and expanded in 1908. Wendy Spinner joined Facebook in 2009 to stay in touch with family, friends and co-workers.She got that. But she also got an invasion of privacy that she calls a nightmare.In January, Spinner’s Facebook contacts said they received messages from someone who was impersonating Spinner.The person asked them to send money, she said.Spinner said she knew she had been hacked.“I reported the impersonation and hacking of my account to the Facebook Help Center,” Spinner said. “Facebook instructed me to change my password and email address which are connected to my Facebook account.”But two minutes after she made those changes, the hacker somehow gained access, changing her password and email address to their own.This happened again and again and went on for weeks, Spinner said. In India, WhatsApp's biggest market with 400 million users, it got approval to start financial services in November. By using debit or pre-paid cards numbers, WhatsApp's 120 million users in Brazil are able to send each other up to 5,000 reais per month through the messaging service free of charge. Initially, the system will not allow each transaction to surpass 1,000 reais or more than 20 transfers per day.The roll out of the new feature will be phased, Chief Operating Officer Matthew Idema said in an interview.
