Facebook Marketplace rental scams can cost thousands, property manager warns – KPLC

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A ghoulish scam tactic using so-called ”ghost listings" continues to spread over Facebook Marketplace. One local real estate manager says it’s easy to get tricked, but there are ways to weed out bad listings. Samantha Jagneaux with Jagneaux Property Management said scammers have stolen her legitimate property listings and reposted them to trick renters into sending money. “They sent their first month’s rent and deposit, and they were out of that money. It was quite a bit of money. It was like a couple thousand they were out,” Jagneaux said. Ashlyn Gaudet, who works with Jagneaux, said Facebook Marketplace remains the most effective platform for legitimate property managers despite the scam problem. “As property managers, it is the best place to list things because that’s where we get the most views, the most interest. It’s hard for us to advertise it in any other way, but it is sad that this has come to this,” Gaudet said. Jagneaux said there is little property managers can do once someone has been scammed.  » Read More

Despite ban, Fidesz still freely advertises on Facebook via its Digital Civic Circles – Telex

Fidesz' Digital Civic Circles (Digitális Polgári Körök or DPKs) are running more than 200 ads on Facebook, according to a brief analysis by Political Capital shared on Facebook. Fidesz is thus continuing its campaign to recruit and increase its voter database even after the official ban on political advertising has taken effect. According to Political Capital, by Tuesday morning, the DPKs had run 260 ads encouraging Internet users to join, but, some of these ads expired at noon on October 28. However, in the afternoon, they launched a new wave, with 230 ads running simultaneously. They make no secret of the fact that this is a political movement: the shared images feature Fidesz influencers and opinion leaders (many of the images were taken at a campaign event, the so-called Peace March), but there is also one showing Minister of Defence Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky. According to the policy research institute, the goal of the campaign is not only to expand DPK membership, as they also encourage target audiences to provide offline data: they ask for email addresses,  » Read More

Meta Stock On Winning Streak With Earnings Due. This Number Takes ‘Center Stage.’

Meta Platforms (META) stock rose early Monday, setting up a seventh consecutive positive trading day. The Facebook and Instagram parent company reports third-quarter earnings late Wednesday. Expectations are high following second-quarter results that one analyst said "blew the doors off." Analysts project Meta will post sales of $49.5 billion for the September-ended quarter, according to FactSet, representing 22% year-over-year growth. That's the highest growth target for Meta this year. For Meta's Q2 and Q1 results earlier this year, analysts were forecasting sales growth of 14% and 13%, respectively, ahead of the results. Meta beat both of those marks with 22% sales growth in Q2 and 16% in Q1. Meanwhile, analysts expect the Facebook parent company to post an 11% increase in earnings to $6.72 per share, according to FactSet.  Nearly all of Meta's revenue comes from sales of digital ads on the company's Family of Apps, led by Facebook and Instagram. Stifel analyst Mark Kelley wrote to clients late last week that digital advertising is "generally in a good spot," with Meta remaining a top pick.  » Read More
