More fake Toby Carvery offers circulate on Facebook – Full Fact

18 August 2025 What was claimed Toby Carvery is offering free meals to people who like certain Facebook posts. Our verdict False. A spokesperson for Mitchells & Butlers, the company that owns Toby Carvery, confirmed these are not genuine offers. Facebook posts claiming that people can receive a free meal at a Toby Carvery restaurant in exchange for likes are false. A spokesperson for Mitchells & Butlers, Toby Carvery’s parent company, confirmed that promotions are only offered through the chain’s official channels, and these are not genuine deals. One post says: “Big news, as the President of Toby Carvery I’m very excited to announce we’re going to be treating everyone who likes to a free carvery in celebration of our anniversary”. It includes two images of roast dinners, and a photo of a man holding what appears to be a menu and standing outside a Toby Carvery restaurant. However, this photo does not show the “President of Toby Carvery”.  » Read More

We still were able to generate a bunch of scoring opportunities and will continue to work on our finishing."   HOW IT HAPPENED Vermont had a good look in the 10th minute as Sydney Remington put a shot just wide left of the goal. The best way to protect zookeepers? Get rid of zoos | Jason Baker | The Times of Israel

Featured Post In the wake of the mauling death at the Biblical Zoo, it's worth asking why animals that should be roaming free are held in captivity The death of Uriel Nuri, a zookeeper at the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo, is tragic. But it was not an isolated incident. It reflects a troubling pattern seen in zoos around the world. Just weeks earlier, a woman in Australia lost her arm after being attacked by a lion at Darling Downs Zoo, and a supervisor at Thiruvananthapuram Zoo in India suffered a serious head injury after being struck by a tiger. In April, a zookeeper at Mariupol Zoo in Ukraine was killed by a tiger, and in February, a lion at Fayoum Zoo in Egypt fatally mauled a keeper. Although the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo has promised a full investigation into how the leopard escaped from his enclosure, the answer is simple: Animals don’t belong in zoos. Leopards are sensitive, complex animals who roam vast territories in their natural habitat. In zoos, they are reduced to “entertainment,” confined to artificial spaces that strip them of choice.  » Read More

Neil Young’s Facebook and Instagram Pages Go Silent to Protest AI Chatbots – Inside Hook

It isn't the first time he's had issues with Meta If you’ve been relying on Neil Young’s official Facebook or Instagram presences to stay abreast of the rock mainstay’s activities, you might need to find a new source for your information. As of August 14, Young’s presences on the social networks in question have called it a day, with the decision prompted by Facebook parent company Meta’s controversial AI chatbots. “At Neil Young’s request, we are no longer using Facebook for any Neil Young related activities,” a message on Young’s official Facebook page declared. “Meta’s use of chatbots with children is unconscionable. Mr. Young does not want a further connection with FACEBOOK.” Young’s official Instagram page featured a similar message. Earlier this year, a Wall Street Journal investigation showed Meta’s chatbots engaging in wildly inappropriate conversations with users identified as minors. Young’s announcement came in the wake of a blockbuster Reuters investigation that revealed the guidelines Meta used for its chatbots — including some that permitted inappropriate conversations with minors.  » Read More

Family mourns man fatally shot while on Facebook Live in Austin: ‘I’m hurt, angry, sad, sick’

Kevin Watson was jailed when he was 15 and often told young relatives — from his 7-year-old son to his nieces and nephews — “not to follow in his footsteps,” his sister said. “We have some going off to college right now, honors program children who are into sports because of him,” Teletha Watson, his younger sister, said. “He came back into the community and that’s who he went for, the kids and the teenagers.” Kevin Watson, 40, was streaming on Facebook Live about 6:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 5000 block of West Madison Street when a driver approached him and an occupant of the car fired shots, Chicago police and his sister said. Teletha Watson, 35, scrambled to Mount Sinai Hospital after getting a call from their sister saying that Kevin Watson had been shot while he streamed on Facebook Live. A couple of hours earlier, the two were laughing and buying popsicles and candy at a gas station. “He’s a fighter, that’s what was going through my head,” Teletha Watson said as she recounted what was going through her mind as she rushed to the hospital.  » Read More

Payments could soon go out for a $725M Facebook settlement – NBC Chicago

(NOTE: Video in the player above is from a previous story) Facebook users who filed a claim in a $725 million settlement years ago will soon finally receive their payouts. Checks are set to be distributed starting this month and continuing for 10 weeks, according to a website dedicated to the settlement. Originally, payments were expected to go out soon after the settlement was approved on Oct. 10, 2023. But two appeals were filed and eventually resolved on May 14, 2025. On May 22, the settlement was finalized. This payment will be different from the checks many received as part of a separate Facebook settlement earlier this year. That $90 million settlement with Facebook's parent company involved the social media platform's famous "Like" button. A class-action lawsuit had accused "Facebook of tracking its subscribers’ activities on non-Facebook websites – even while signed out of their Facebook accounts," between April 22, 2010 and Sept. 25, 2011.
