Surveying emigrants worldwide–using Facebook and Instagram to recruit respondents in …

Research Open access Published: 04 August 2025 Comparative Migration Studies volume 13, Article number: 56 (2025) Cite this article AbstractSampling remains a major challenge when researching minority populations, especially in cross-national settings. While various sampling methods are established in the field, most of them cannot easily be implemented globally. However, worldwide operating Social Networking Sites provide an opportunity for the recruitment of certain hard-to-reach populations in almost all countries. Targeting German emigrants through paid advertisements on Facebook and Instagram, we aim to ascertain whether such ads could be used to recruit a nonprobability emigrant sample on a global scale. Specifically, we look at two aspects: relative cost efficiency and coverage. Using this approach, we achieved 3,816 completed surveys from emigrants in 148 countries and territories. Suburban Atlanta Man Faces Federal Charges After Posting Social Media Threats to Kill …

ATLANTA – Christopher Robertson, 42, of Fairburn, Georgia, made his initial court appearance today before United States Magistrate Judge Catherine M. Salinas on federal charges of communicating interstate threats. Robertson was charged after he posted to Facebook multiple videos of himself making racial threats to kill Jews and Blacks. Robertson, who also calls himself James Lomak, was arrested on Friday, August 1, 2025, after a lengthy stand-off with the FBI. Magistrate Judge Salinas ordered Robertson held in custody until his next hearing at 9:30 a.m. on August 7, 2025. “The allegations against Robertson, which include menacing visits to Jewish facilities and vile online threats against Jews and Blacks, are of great concern,” said United States Attorney Theodore S. Hertzberg. “Protecting the community from hate-fueled violence is a foundational part of the Department of Justice’s mission, and we will aggressively prosecute criminals who abuse the internet to terrorize and intimidate others.” “Mr. Robertson’s alleged actions serve as a disturbing reminder of the terrifying hatred our Jewish communities encounter simply because of their beliefs,” said Special Agent in Charge of FBI Atlanta Paul Brown.  » Read More

Conor McGregor shames Facebook tough guy after BKFC Sturgis beatdown – MMA Mania

Nothing gets past Conor McGregor, especially a Facebook tough guy who got his ass handed to him Saturday night (Aug. 2, 2025) at BKFC 79 in Sturgis, South Dakota. Saturday was a day of reckoning for cocky fighters and that included BKFC Sturgis. It happened in a “Prelims” matchup between Cody Kerr and Dillon Blaydon. Apparently, Blaydon had talked a ton of trash and sent threats on Facebook leading up to the fight, only to flounder in the opening moments of the first round. Kerr won the bad blood matchup with a vicious knockout sequence and then proceeded to go off during his post-fight interview. He brought up the Facebook beef, which prompted McGregor to take to social media and offer his two cents. McGregor, who is part-owner of BKFC, was not in attendance for another Sturgis takeover, but the former UFC champion was watching from afar. Check out McGregor’s cold critique below and let us know your take: Wild! @bareknucklefc Opponent was sending threats on Facebook in the build up.  » Read More
