On a recent hungover Sunday, I lost half an hour to social media. So far, so normal. In my experience, there are few things a dehydrated, dopamine-deprived brain craves more than a quick hit of other people’s lives. But I wasn’t sitting slack-jawed on Instagram — my usual poison of choice — or doing a gloom-scroll through Twitter/X to examine civilisation’s latest bin-fire at close range. I was on LinkedIn.To clear up a couple of things: I’m not looking for a new job, and I wasn’t lost. I was on a mission, of sorts: to sate my social media craving with something cheerful, or at the very least blandly interesting. Mission accomplished. I nodded with pleasure when I spotted a dear friend had updated their profile with a big new job, read with (some) interest an article about ChatGPT, and finished with a bit of light recon on an old university acquaintance, though at that point I logged out to avoid leaving a telltale trace.Eccentric? Hardly. According to figures from DataReportal, millennials like me (I’m 33) use the platform more than any other demographic: 26 per cent of women aged 25-34 are on there, and 34 per cent of men.

But to create one of the chairs designed by Ondarreta, the San Sebastián-based brand that has just won the 2023 National Design Award, it has taken three generations, a deep Basque spirit, and a vision of functional and contemporary design that is remarkable for its discretion. “Do not sit please,” says their motto. There is a lot behind these four words. It all started in a small carpentry shop on Ondarreta beach, in the northern Spanish city of San Sebastián, in the heart of the Basque Country region. More than a workshop, Juan Arratibel’s place was a cabinetry: he worked by hand on classic furniture for high society at the beginning of the 20th century. That artisan work was maintained for several decades until the 1970s, when his son Juanjo Arratibel and his wife María Luisa Marilis Galardi took the reins of the business and began specializing in kitchens. “We are daughters and granddaughters of cabinetmakers. We make furniture in the contemporary world, which forces us to rethink tradition and innovation,” say Nadia and Nora, the Arratibel

MACON, Ga. — After almost six years of running the Macon Bacon baseball team, the franchise owner Steve DeLay is putting the team up for sale, looking for an owner who will continue to "serve the communities they call home." The Macon Bacon is a part of the Coastal Plain League. The team is a collegiate summer baseball team, essentially offering college students the chance to play during their off months. DeLay started the Bacon in July 2017, with the team playing at the historic Luther Williams Field in Caroyln Crayton Park. But in his announcement, DeLay emphasized that the new owner doesn't have a team to turn around. Instead, they have a solid foundation to jump off of, he wrote. "What they need is someone committed to continuing to deliver a superior fan experience, see staff grow and evolve and serve the communities they call home," DeLay said. "I don’t need to sell them, and this isn’t a distress auction. But I would like for them, like the dogs I rescue, to go to a home."
