The secret of Ondarreta, the Basque family firm led by women that works for Linkedin and Hermès

To make a chair you only need a seat, a backrest and four legs — some designers even have enough with fewer than that. But to create one of the chairs designed by Ondarreta, the San Sebastián-based brand that has just won the 2023 National Design Award, it has taken three generations, a deep Basque spirit, and a vision of functional and contemporary design that is remarkable for its discretion. “Do not sit please,” says their motto. There is a lot behind these four words. It all started in a small carpentry shop on Ondarreta beach, in the northern Spanish city of San Sebastián, in the heart of the Basque Country region. More than a workshop, Juan Arratibel’s place was a cabinetry: he worked by hand on classic furniture for high society at the beginning of the 20th century. That artisan work was maintained for several decades until the 1970s, when his son Juanjo Arratibel and his wife María Luisa Marilis Galardi took the reins of the business and began specializing in kitchens. “We are daughters and granddaughters of cabinetmakers. We make furniture in the contemporary world, which forces us to rethink tradition and innovation,” say Nadia and Nora, the Arratibel

Macon Bacon owner puts the team up for sale almost six years after founding the team. Here's why

The owner of the Bacon, Steve DeLay, announced the news on LinkedIn. Here's what he is looking for in a new owner. MACON, Ga. — After almost six years of running the Macon Bacon baseball team, the franchise owner Steve DeLay is putting the team up for sale, looking for an owner who will continue to "serve the communities they call home." The Macon Bacon is a part of the Coastal Plain League. The team is a collegiate summer baseball team, essentially offering college students the chance to play during their off months.   DeLay started the Bacon in July 2017, with the team playing at the historic Luther Williams Field in Caroyln Crayton Park.  But in his announcement, DeLay emphasized that the new owner doesn't have a team to turn around. Instead, they have a solid foundation to jump off of, he wrote.  "What they need is someone committed to continuing to deliver a superior fan experience, see staff grow and evolve and serve the communities they call home," DeLay said. "I don’t need to sell them, and this isn’t a distress auction. But I would like for them, like the dogs I rescue, to go to a home."

Use LinkedIn to raise a Series A – TechCrunch

Katie Konyn is a principal at Publicize. Originally from the UK, she resides in Colombia and has long been passionate about the positive impact that startups, particularly in the medical space, can make. Daniela Restrepo Contributor Daniela Restrepo is a tech and business journalist and VP at Publicize, a public relations firm empowering tech companies. With investment activity reaching a three-year low in Q2 of 2023, it’s clear that we’re deep in the midst of a funding winter. However, founders with their Series A on the horizon are facing especially tough odds. Seed startups in the U.S. were least affected by the funding downturn as investors opted for smaller deals against more costly late-stage rounds. While this was good news in the short-term for new startups, there are now more seed-stage companies than ever in the pipeline and the average funding time between seed and Series A has stretched to 25 months. Having a stellar pitch deck will encourage investors to bet on your idea, but how can you convince anyone without first securing a meeting? In 2023, founders will need to actively court the attention of investors to get their foot in the door. LinkedIn provides an extremely valuable

Veterans Day – 2023 – Lawfire – Sites@Duke Express

I hope you are enjoying Veterans Day, and the freedom we have in our country! I’m proud – and grateful – to be among the 16.2 million living veterans in the United States, and I am thankful for those incredible people who served before, during and after my time in service. In his Proclamation, the President Biden said: This Veterans Day, we honor the generations of women and men who have served and sacrificed — not for a person, a place, or a President — but for an idea unlike any other: the idea of the United States of America. For nearly 250 years, our veterans have defended the values that make us strong so that our Nation could stand as a citadel of liberty, a beacon of freedom, and a wellspring of possibilities. (Just as a quick reminder, Veterans Day is intended to honor all veterans while Memorial Day is intended to commemorate those who have died in the service).  Sadly, however, it is hard to escape the grim news: the media reports that the “US is mounting a frantic effort to head off a wider Middle East war” while at the same time experts are also telling us
