The pandemic was tough on working mothers who, during the height of the quarantine, suddenly took on homeschooling and additional caretaking responsibilities. Some women made the hard decision to leave their jobs behind. But here in Seattle, there is some good news. Women in Seattle are advancing to management positions at the highest rate in the country. According to new LinkedIn data, Seattle saw the largest proportion of women moving into management roles in 2021. “Women in Seattle are 80% more likely than the national average to advance in Seattle than in, say, New York or San Francisco or some of the other metro areas,” said Caroline Fairchild, editor at large at LinkedIn. Not surprisingly, the industry where women succeeded most was in pandemic-proof tech. “Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, Boeing, and Salesforce; those are all companies that made LinkedIn’s top companies list this year,” Fairchild said. Gov. Ned Lamont is challenging his Republican opponent, Bob Stefanowski, to break his silence and take a position on the abortion rights bill that recently passed with the support of Stefanowski’s running mate, Rep. Laura Devlin of Fairfield. “I think that any candidate for governor has got to speak up and let us know where you stand,” Lamont said Tuesday at a ceremonial signing of the bill outside the Capitol. “What have I heard from the Republican candidate for governor? Crickets.” Stefanowski has remained silent on House Bill 5414 in the three weeks since it cleared the House of Representatives on an 87-60 vote, with Devlin and six other Republicans voting with 80 Democrats in support.  The measure provides a “safe harbor” to women from states with restrictive abortion laws who get abortions in Connecticut, as well as the clinicians who provide them. It also conforms state law with a 21-year-old legal opinion permitting APRNs, nurse midwives and physicians’ assistants to perform first-trimester abortions by suction, the most common type of early abortion. Nevada's Sylvain Malroux was named the Mountain West men's tennis coach of the year after his team's record-breaking season.In the seventh season of his second tenure at Nevada, Malroux led the program to its first Mountain West titles and first NCAA Tournament appearance. The Wolf Pack won the MW regular-season and conference championships before losing to USC, 4-0, last Friday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The award was voted on by the conference's head coaches.Nevada went 19-8 overall, including a 5-1 record in conference play. It won the MW's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with a 4-3 win over New Mexico in the conference tournament championship match. Entering this season, Nevada had not won a conference championship in men's tennis since 1982 when it was in the Big Sky.Under Malroux's tutelage, the Wolf Pack had four players earn All-Mountain West honors in 2022.
