Wisconsin Family Action: Responds to attack on its office | WisPolitics.com

Contact:    Julaine Appling, President – 608-268-5074 Fax:          608-256-3370 Email:      MADISON, WI –Early this morning a leftist anarchist group attacked Wisconsin Family Action’s office in Madison, throwing two Molotov cocktails into the office, after breaking windows, and then proceeded to light a fire. The arsonists posted graffiti on the outside of the building near the group’s offices. The message was, “If abortions aren’t safe, then you aren’t either.” Anarchy 1312 took responsibility for the attack, leaving its logo on an outside wall. Julaine Appling, president of Wisconsin Family Action, issued the following statement: While this attack was directly provoked by the leaked draft opinion from the US Supreme Court in the Dobbs case earlier this week, this has far broader implication. Apparently, the tolerance that the left demands is truly a one-way street. Violence has become their answer to everything. This is what happens when leadership is missing or when leadership implies that violence is ok. In 2020, Governor Tony Evers basically looked the other way when violence erupted in Kenosha and Madison. That kind of non-response fosters what happened to us this morning, leaving Wisconsin citizens who disagree with his policies extremely vulnerable to similar violence. In fact, Governor Evers’s response to…

It is her rock-solid determination and ‘never-give-up’ attitude that the world now sees in Elon. Elon Musk with mother Maye Musk. It was this attitude that propelled the Canadian-South African American supermodel to walk through the most difficult times while raising her three children. At 74, the jet-setting, charming Maye has a tight-knit circle of family and friends. But things were not always so easy or glamorous for her. Her weight issues as a plus-size model and ageism in the modelling industry were among the challenges life threw at her. Maye established a career for herself as a respected dietitian. She had to start over in eight different cities across three countries and two continents, but her indomitable spirit helped her make her way through it all. Another strong leader, who has come into the limelight in the last few months, is Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian President’s unshaven face has captivated the world as the symbol of his country’s defiance and resilience. The former actor and comedian credits his engineer mom Rimma Zelenskaya for…

(Image credit: Cytonn Photography / Unsplash)These days, advancing your marketing career requires navigating a fast-changing environment and constantly learning new skills. There’s also growing competition as more people are drawn to the opportunities in the marketing field. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that marketing, advertising, and promotions jobs will grow 10% this decade, with 31,800 additional jobs created.  At the same time, the future of work is also changing as some offices remain remote and others adopt hybrid work styles. So what’s the best advice for marketers on how to advance your career? SmartBrief turned to seven marketing managers and recruiters to answer that question. Here’s what they had to say.  Diversify your experiences Dana Siomkos / Dana Siomkos “My feeling is that diversity in someone’s resume is most important,” said Dana Siomkos, founder & CEO of You & Them, a boutique recruiting company. “If I ever talk to a candidate who’s been just on the agency side, and just at a specific type of agency, whether it’s digital or brand, I always encourage them to diversify.” “Don’t do what I did,” added Daphne Sipos, principal recruiter at Shine Talent & Advisory. She spent nearly 13 years at…

Dean of Students office manager earns May STAR award – UW Oshkosh

Lindsey DeVries, who works in the Dean of Students Office and Accessibility Center at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh as an office manager, has been named the recipient of the May 2022 STAR Award. She was nominated by Kiersten Karlsen, associate dean of students: “Lindsey is there for students. She is often the first contact when a student comes into the Dean of Students Office and Accessibility Center. She is not only caring and supportive in her approach but also has a keen sense of how to best triage student care. She goes the extra mile to find the best resource for students’ individual circumstances and in many cases will walk the student directly to the source to ensure contact is made. We are confident that in the absence of staff members in our department, Lindsey would rise to the occasion and manage the situation while effectively meeting a student’s specific needs whatever the circumstance. Lindsey goes above and beyond by doing extra, following up with students and ensuring follow up from others in the office so that not a single student is left without the utmost care. “When a new project surfaces for the Dean of Students Office or…

LinkedIn is on the hook for $1.8 million for alleged gender bias | HR Morning

1 minute read LinkedIn will pay $1.8 million and take other steps to resolve DOL allegations that it engaged in systemic gender-based pay discrimination at two of its California facilities. The Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs conducted a routine compliance evaluation. After doing so, it found that for a two-year period beginning at the start of March of 2015, LinkedIn did not comply with Executive Order 11246. Among other things, that order bans federal contractors from discriminating in employment on the basis of a number of protected categories, including sex. According to the OFCCP, LinkedIn violated the order in that it did not equally pay some females in its engineering, marketing and product job groups at its facilities in San Francisco and Sunnyvale. Agreement Ends Matter To resolve the allegations, the parties entered into a conciliation agreement. In addition to paying $1.8 million, LinkedIn agreed to conduct staff training to ensure compliance with its non-bias obligations. In addition, for the next three years it will evaluate whether its compensation practices are gender neutral and will make any adjustments that are needed. It will also revise its compensation policies and practices to ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements. A total…
