The pain inside white-collardom

NEW DELHI : A few days ago, an exasperated recruiter posted a short tutorial on the professional networking site LinkedIn on “how not to apply for a job". She had received a number of applications for an opening that her lifestyle magazine had advertised. And some jobseekers had pursued her tenaciously, writing her multiple emails and getting in touch even via social media platforms, on which work is rarely, if ever, discussed. “Hounding one on Instagram is NOT the way to go," the recruiter wrote. “Going after a recruiter’s boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife (whom) you saw on their profile is crossing boundaries." Nearly everyone who commented on the post agreed. But, one response stood out. “Sometimes, desperate people take desperate actions," wrote a job seeker, who was looking for remote social media work, in a comment that was later deleted. This sort of desperation to find work is palpable not just on LinkedIn, but on other social media platforms as well. “My name is Reema. I have 10+ years of experience in admin, relationships management, people management," a text doing the rounds on WhatsApp read. “I have been on a break since 2014 to look after my daughter. I recently lost my husband…

LinkedIn Security Warning: Malware Sent via Fake Job Offers

LinkedIn security problems may come not from the website itself but from people trying to abuse it. Digital attackers launched a spear-phishing campaign on LinkedIn in April that used fake job offers to spread malware.  The attackers attempted to trick professionals into opening a .ZIP file that used the same job position as the one listed on their LinkedIn profiles. That .ZIP file could then download more_eggs, a backdoor. It’s capable of running numerous malicious plugins, as well as enabling remote access to a victim’s computer. Read on to learn how attackers are using threats like more_eggs malware to go after people on LinkedIn. More_eggs, More Problems Researchers at eSentire disrupted the LinkedIn security spear-phishing incident. In this case, the attackers had targeted someone in the health care sector. Ralf Brandstätter shared details of the model, which is an ID.3 with parts from the ID.4 GTX.Volkswagen ID XVolkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter has shared images of a new electric hot hatch concept car on his LinkedIn page.Called ID X, it appears to be a fun project that was thought up by engineers on the firm’s electric vehicle division. It’s based on an ID.3 hatchback, but uses the powertrain from the ID.4 GTX, which Volkswagen is calling its first electric performance car.(VW)As such, it replaces the ID.3’s 62kWh battery with an 82kWh version, while power has been bumped to 323bhp. It has all-wheel-drive, which likely means this power hike has been achieved through the use of the GTX’s twin-motor system, though the power output here is about 40bhp higher. In his LinkedIn post, Brandstätter said: “We just introduced the ID.4 GTX. Our first electric performance model is very well received. Even with our engineers – because with it they have discovered the fun of developing high-performance electric cars. And so we just let them do it.”Brandstätter says he has been testing the running prototype and was ’thrilled’ by its performance, with a 0-60mph time of 5.3 seconds making this very fast indeed, helped…
