Anna Wintour stepped down from her longtime role editing U.S. Vogue just six days ago, but her employer is already taking a classic route to find her replacement. Condé Nast, Vogue’s parent company, took to LinkedIn on Tuesday to advertise a new opening at their company: Head of Editorial Content for U.S. Vogue, a role intended to replace Wintour. The barebones post reads simply, “Condé Nast is hiring a Head of Editorial Content for U.S Vogue. Condé Nast/LinkedIn Wintour, 75, announced last Thursday that she would take a step back from editing the magazine to instead focus on her other two roles at Condé Nast, as the company’s artistic director and the global editorial director of Vogue, which has 29 international branches. The shock announcement soon raised suspicion among some longtime fans of the magazine, who questioned why Wintour was stepping down without an apparent successor in place. Former Irish rugby official Chris Busby has sent a pointed message to the IRFU, criticising the organisation for their lack of support in recent months ahead of his retirement. Busby was at the centre of a controversial saga at the turn of the year, one which would see him opt to retire from refereeing. The incident centred on comment made by Ireland winger Mack Hansen after Connacht's loss to Leinster back in December. On that occasion, the 27-year old would question the officiating in the game and suggest that it was just the latest in a long line of poor refereeing performances that had affected the province. Busby was the referee in that game, with the Antrim native reportedly subjected to quite a bit of online abuse in the aftermath of the fixture. He would then decide to retire in the weeks following this incident. Mack Hansen would ultimately receive a three-match ban as a result of his comments. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is home to one of the world’s most biodiverse ecosystems and one of the largest carbon sinks left on Earth, second only in size to the Amazon rainforest and encompassing more than half of the Congo Basin rainforest.  The peatlands of Cuvette Centrale in DRC and the Republic of Congo, estimated to be the largest continuous tropical peat complex in the world at 145,000 km2 and a storehouse of approximately 30 gigatons of carbon, equivalent to two years of global greenhouse gas emissions, have recently been opened to potential extraction by the government’s decision to put 52 new oil blocks up for bid. This lifeline for the planet is under attack again with news of reopening of this area for potential oil bids. Already, resource extraction beyond fossil fuels is driving conflict, displacement, and ecosystem destruction to the people of DRC while benefiting multinational corporations and complicit politicians.
