Aaron Sorkin hits refresh on Facebook in ‘The Social Reckoning’ — Fall Movie Preview

NEW YORK (AP) — When Aaron Sorkin made 2010’s “The Social Network,” he had heard of Facebook, he said at the time, “the way I’ve heard of a carburetor.” Sixteen years later, he has a much deeper idea of what Mark Zuckerberg’s social media empire has become. “Back then, Facebook was a way to keep in touch with people you went to high school with. It’s something much different now,” Sorkin says. “‘The Social Network’ was about the invention of Facebook. ‘Social Reckoning’ is about what it’s become and, in particular, Facebook’s role in the rise of extremism and divisiveness.” “The Social Reckoning,” which Sony Pictures will release Oct. 9, is one of the most timely movies arriving in theaters this fall. Last week, Sony debuted the film’s trailer the same day that Meta, Facebook’s parent company, agreed to pay up to $18 billion in penalties over claims its platform endangered children. “The Social Reckoning” is poised to further scrutinize the social media behemoth at a time when Zuckerberg is under greater pressure than ever over the role Facebook plays in contemporary life and politics.  » Read More

The late Bernard "Skip" Fisher, in an undated family photo. (Fisher family) Fisher was told that her husband and other residents had been videotaped naked at the home, and the images were shared among a group of facility employees via Snapchat. “I was completely shocked,” Fisher said. “I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. My husband was humiliated, he was degraded, and not able to defend himself. It immobilizes my every thought since then.” Madison Russo, 25, of Bartlett, was charged with unauthorized videotaping and unauthorized dissemination of a person at their residence without their permission. Russo was scheduled to face arraignment on the charge Tuesday. Officials from Encore did not return a phone call in a request for comment. At least three other residents were also videotaped, a police report stated, one while naked in the shower, one on the toilet and another in her underpants in front of her wheelchair.

SwissDrones CEO Exits On LinkedIn As Leadership Splits Three Ways – DroneXL

Ulrich Amberg is stepping down as chief executive of SwissDrones after more than six years, and the Swiss uncrewed helicopter maker is not replacing him with one person. It is dividing the job among three. Amberg announced his own departure on LinkedIn over the weekend, not in a company press release. He wrote that he is leaving to take on a new challenge and said more would follow, without naming where he is going. Lukas Obrist, already chief technology officer, takes the manufacturing side. Larry Berkin leads a newly formed entity called Xplorate Group, Inc. Ronnie Fahy keeps running Xplorate Pacific, the Australian operator that flies the aircraft. The timing is the part worth sitting with. The announcement lands three weeks after SwissDrones and its Australian subsidiary announced a US market entry, and one day before Commercial UAV Expo opens in Las Vegas, where Berkin is on the program. I will be at that show this week. Amberg Spent Six Years Turning BVLOS Approvals Into A Business Amberg first engaged SwissDrones as a strategy consultant in 2018, then took the chief executive job the following year alongside a personal equity investment. He came from KPMG, where he had been a
