Digital Assignment Editor A former Albuquerque teacher has been sentenced to 40 years in federal prison after sexually exploiting children in the community. Benjamin Smith is a former middle school teacher at Escalante Middle School in Durango who posed as a 16-year-old female on Snapchat named "Kristin." While disguised, Smith reached out to adolescent boys in the Durango area, engaged in conversation, and sent them naked photos of a young girl. He asked his targets to reciprocate, often directing them to take specific pictures of their bodies. In total, Smith was charged with producing child pornography in this manner with 36 victims. Smith was found to have engaged in sexual acts with 11 minors; several of his victims were as young as 13 years old; one was 12 years old. X’s algorithm effectively ragebaits Democrats – A.V. Club

Those who still use X, The Everything App with any regularity at all are probably aware of how the situation has deteriorated in the past few years. The algorithm feeds its users a steady stream of slop and right-wing talking points, and replies under posts are dominated by people (or bots) who have purchased a blue check to get a priority placement under a post. If Twitter was the internet’s town square, X has become the rundown, anger-inducing ghost of what used to be.  Of course, that is part of its purpose, as a new report in 404 Media reminds. The outlet reports on a new study published in the Proceedings Of The National Academy of Sciences academic journal, which found that reply generation is the biggest indication of what will make a post appear in someone’s For You page. This in itself isn’t especially novel information; algorithms have long prioritized engagement, which often means they are designed to provoke anger in a user. But what is more new is the revelation that the platform serves people who call themselves Democrats more ragebait than anyone else. However, this seems to at least partially correspond to Democrats’ behavior on the platform.

Troy University’s College of Education and Behavioral Sciences supports children of … – Troy Today

The College of Education and Behavioral Sciences at Troy University is helping make a difference for children of incarcerated mothers through its Pack the Bus initiative. In partnership with Aid to Inmate Moms and the Anthropology Club, the initiative brought the TROY community together to collect essential school supplies for children across Alabama, helping ensure they have the resources they need to begin the school year prepared to learn, grow and succeed. The initiative was inspired by a desire to help children who may face additional challenges as they prepare to return to school. With school supplies and clothing often playing an important role in a child’s academic and social experience, the Pack the Bus drive sought to help ensure children of incarcerated mothers have access to the resources they need to begin the school year prepared to learn, grow and succeed. For Dr. Stephen Carmody, the initiative was especially meaningful because of his years of work with Aid to Inmate Moms and his connection to the field of education. “I have school-aged children, and I know how important back-to-school time is for them,” said Dr. Stephen Carmody, the Director of the School of Social Sciences. “It is an exciting

From Myerscough to Boston: Amari Williams ready to come home – Basketball England

Home News 18 August 2026  8 min read Seven years ago, Amari Williams pulled on a Great Britain jersey for the first time at the Under-16 European Championships in Bosnia. He was a teenager then, still at the beginning of a journey that would take him from Nottingham to Myerscough Basketball Academy to college basketball and ultimately the NBA with the Boston Celtics. Now, at 23 years old, Williams is preparing to wear that jersey again – this time as a senior international for the first time. "I’ve wanted to be involved in the programme for the whole time I’ve been away, so when I realised this summer everything finally lined up for me to be able to come to camp, I was just excited. "Coming to camp during the college season isn’t possible, then the summers are difficult too because Kentucky for example always started in August and last summer I was drafted, but I’ve always wanted to and I’m glad to finally be here." That desire has remained clear throughout his time away. Williams has stayed in contact with many of the players in the programme, while Men’s General Manager Dan Clark has maintained a close relationship with him

Bookman: In a twist fit for a Greek epic, Jones could be Jackson’s Achilles heel

by Jay Bookman, Georgia Recorder, August 18, 2026 In much of “The Iliad” – the ancient Greek “prequel” to “The Odyssey” now dominating the summer movie box office – the hero Achilles can be found sulking in his tent outside the walls of Troy. He is bitterly angry at his fellow Greeks, feeling that he has been cheated and disrespected, and thus refuses to fight any longer on their behalf. “You don’t need me? Fine.” Even when the great King Agamemnon begs him to rejoin the battle, telling him that the Greeks are likely to lose without his help, the sulking, prideful Achilles refuses. Achilles, in other words, is exactly like Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, or would be if Jones were the son of a sea nymph and not the heir to the Jones Petroleum Company, and if Jones were the greatest warrior in the ancient world instead of a former walk-on football player at the University of Georgia. Otherwise, though, pretty much the same.  In the weeks since being outbid for the GOP nomination for governor by Rick Jackson, Jones has been sitting on the sidelines, nursing his
