14 August 2026 UPDATED 14 August 2026 Photo: AFP Bangladesh have caught the cricketing world’s attention after dominating Australia through the first two days of their opening Test in Darwin. Many expected the Tigers to lose inside three days, given the gulf between the two sides and the fact that Bangladesh were playing their first Test in Australia in 23 years. On their previous tour in 2003, they lost both Tests by an innings. The visitors also arrived Down Under on the back of a Test defeat in Zimbabwe and had an underwhelming preparation, losing their only warm-up match after being bowled out for 54 in the second innings. Instead, Bangladesh have not only held their own but dominated proceedings over the opening two days, earning widespread praise from former and current international players and experts. Some have even admitted they cannot remember seeing Australia dominated so comprehensively on the opening day of a Test. Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has now joined the chorus of praise for the Tigers. “Bangladesh have put Australia on the back foot in Darwin, and that couldn’t have been on anyone’s script,” Ashwin wrote on X on Friday. “From 54 all out in the

A federal judge ruled Monday that HGTC violated cosmetology student Leigha Lemoine’s First Amendment rights. The case started in September 2024 when Lemoine, while off campus, sent a Snapchat message in a private group that included some HGTC students. In the chat, Lemoine vented about a derogatory term her boyfriend’s roommate called her, telling the chat, “he needa get blasted.” According to Lemoine’s October 2024 federal lawsuit, everyone in the chat found it funny and supported her instead of expressing fear. On Sept. 11, 2024, HGTC called Lemoine in to discuss the post. She explained that “get blasted” meant calling the person out, not a physical threat, according to the lawsuit. HGTC accepted the explanation and told Lemoine she did not violate the student code, the lawsuit stated. But days later, someone found a video of Lemoine doing target practice with a friend’s handgun in North Carolina, wearing western attire with the caption: “Got u hooked.” HGTC met with Lemoine again, but this time the school handed her an interim suspension and no-trespass order

He urged Democrats to consider him as one of their own despite different views in certain issues. During a livestream on Wednesday, he declared himself part of the Democratic coalition. He criticized Republicans for using him to distract the voters instead of having a conversation on real issues such as the “cost-of-living crisis.” “Democrats, listen to me, I know we don’t always see eye to eye on a lot of stuff, but you have to literally, at some point — I know you don’t want to do this — defend me. Not because you love what I have to say, not because I’m part of this coalition, even though I am, whether you like it or not, but you are going to inevitably have to say, ‘This is a ridiculous conversation that we’re having because the real conversation Republicans don’t want to have is the cost-of-living crisis.’ That requires you to basically to take the L a little bit and maybe be a bit more honest about how I’m not this dangerous, toxic radical force,”

The new design was announced by Adam Mosseri —father of three boys, married to an amazing woman and, aw shucks, yeah, now that you mention it, head of Instagram —on his own account yesterday. Mosseri’s post described the revision as “cleaner and more modern, with references to the original and the simplicity and craft that’s always made it Instagram.” And boy, do people hate it. I mean, where to begin? The most obvious place to start is with the glyph for the letter “r,” which looks like no lower case “r” that has ever existed before nor —if there is any mercy left in the world— any that will ever exist again. (It does, however, look strikingly like the lower case Greek letter τ; perhaps this is the Greek alphabet’s belated revenge for the inexplicable abuse it’s suffered at the hands of American fraternities and sororities over the years.) Beyond the genuinely mystifying “r”, there’s so, so much else at which to shake one’s head here. There’s the jarring mixture of cursive and printing; the inexplicably jaunty little angled stroke at the top of the “I”; the rag-tag mixture of stroke weights; the fact

From anxiety to disrupted sleep to negative thoughts about how we look, social media’s impact on how we feel about ourselves is well documented. Now, a new study suggests it’s also making us forget what we look like. Published in the journal Computers in Human Behavior, 95 people—Millennial and Gen Z men and women, all of whom had a history of using Instagram for an average of eight years—underwent a virtual reality experience called body illusions. Researchers hypothesized that prolonged Instagram use and “exposure to idealized, homogenized appearance-focused content” would make it harder for an individual to tell this difference between their own face and that of a stranger’s. In one part of the experiment, a person wearing a virtual reality headset watched a stranger’s face being brushed on the cheek while feeling that same stroke on their own cheek for 120 seconds. The only similarity between the person participating in the experiment and the stranger was gender—the stranger’s face was not a doppelgänger. After the experiment, participants took a survey in which they had to say how much they agreed with statements like “Sometimes, I

A Cobb County fire official told the Courier in an e-mail that the blaze started about 11 a.m. a Mercado (neighborhood market) with an attached kitchen in the 7000 block of Mableton Parkway. Fire officials say the blaze erupted in the kitchen and employees tried to put it out but were unsuccessful. Fire crew arrived and attacked the blaze while searching for possible victims, but it turned out that the building had already been evacuated. Two employees were taken to the hospital with smoke-related injuries while two firefighters were treated on-scene for heat and exertion-related issues. Fire officials didn’t give the name of the market but there is a business listing for a La Casita 2 restaurant at 7017 Mableton Parkway. There’s been no word as to the cause of the blaze.
