The genre is popular with viewers: 23 young adult titles made Netflix’s global top 10 list this year. Those include the third season of “XO Kitty,” about a young woman studying in Korea; and ice skating drama called “Finding Her Edge.” Actresses Daisy Jelley, left, and Sadie Stanley, right, leads for the show “Poser.” (Ronaldo Bolaños / Los Angeles Times) Since 2023, Netflix said its YA shows and movies have generated more than 10.5 billion global views. The programs also are buzzy on social media, with YA titles representing 30% of Netflix’s most-talked-about titles since 2022, according to the Los Gatos-based company. “It’s just been really clear that this audience has a voracious appetite, and they really look to Netflix as a premier destination for these types of stories,” said

That adage was key to songwriter JoyBeth Taylor’s newest Billboard Country Airplay No. 1, the Ella Langley and Morgan Wallen duet “I Can’t Love You Anymore.” Related “Ella and Morgan had been trying to write a duet,” she shares. “It was two weeks after my son was born and I got a call about 7:30 at night. Ella asked, ‘Can you come to the studio?’ My baby had just been born and I was going through it and my husband was like, ‘You need to go write a song.’ So I showed up and had the ‘I can’t love you anymore’ part already and we just finished it out. We weren’t sure where it was going to land or what was going to happen after that, but it ended up being perfect. I’m so grateful that I showed up that day.” Taylor currently ranks at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Country Songwriters chart and at

A former prosecutor who’s covered a case like this explains that the affidavits describe an unusual path for the case. “This investigation was all started because of a complaint that had been given to the DA’s office, who then referred it to law enforcement,” Meredith Chacon said. “Which is an unusual way that a case can be referred.” Arrest affidavits accuse the San Antonio attorney Calfas of offering legal services in exchange for sex and paying women for sex, according to documents tied to a Texas Department of Public Safety investigation. Chacon, who is now a defense attorney, handled a human trafficking case against a lawyer, Mark Benavides. He was sentenced to 80 years in prison, convicted of exchanging legal services for sex. Chacon said her experience with Benavides’ case taught her these allegations reflect a sobering reality: criminal conduct like this can turn up in unexpected places. “This does happen at that level,” Chacon said. “You’re not shielded from those things
