Your posts make us thirsty, laugh and feel hopeful | The Packer

This week, we loved your posts about inspiring industry professionals, cartoon robot chefs and cocktail contests. Hey, we can’t make this stuff up. (Plus, as journalists, that’s highly frowned upon.) Truth is indeed stranger/cooler than fiction sometimes. LinkedIn While many of us love a good before-and-after photo collage, John Toner took it to the next level during the 2020 Viva Fresh Clean Eating Challenge by the Texas International Produce Association. He was one of the featured participants who documented their progress during the six-month challenge and used it as a springboard for a total overhaul of his lifestyle. The premise is for produce industry members to “walk the talk” of eating healthy, and to make some positive long-lasting changes, whatever that means for each participant. Toner, vice president of conventions and industry collaborations for United Fresh Produce Association, is obviously going through a lot of change at work too, as his association merges with Produce Marketing Association. One year after he started his clean eating journey, Toner has shed a visibly significant amount of weight with several strategies, including exercise, healthy diet and sobriety for a full year, as he celebrated in another LinkedIn post. Toner’s blog posts during the…

Welcome debuts a smarter city guide app on iOS, backed by $3.5M led by Accel | TechCrunch

When you’re exploring a city — whether one you’re visiting on your travels or your own — there are a number of tools that can help you find out where to go, what to see and what to do, like Google Maps, Yelp, TripAdvisor and others. But a startup called Welcome thinks that today’s set of tools could be smarter and more personalized to the individuals who use them. Its new app instead uses “real-time” technologies to make recommendations that take into account a user’s preferences as well as other details about their current context — like the weather, season, traffic and the popularity of the place at the current time of day — in order to provide a better-curated set of recommendations. The end result is meant to be a city guide that’s more like “a concierge in your pocket,” says Welcome co-founder Matthew Rosenberg. Image Credits: Welcome Rosenberg says he was inspired to build Welcome after traveling, pre-pandemic, with his then-girlfriend, now-wife, following the acquisition of his first company, a mobile video creation app called Cameo, by Vimeo. During this time, the couple explored parts of Europe, Latin America, and the U.S., which was an amazing experience he says,…

Anti-Vaxxer Preppers Are Offering Courses on Gardening, Chess and Urban Warfare – VICE

“The enemy rollout of the experimental drug has pushed many people into a corner – either take the experimental drug and die or be excluded from the controlled society that we call the United States,” says the blurb of an American-registered website, whose owners appear to be preparing themselves for a war. The experimental drug that the group “War Time Mind” is referring to is the COVID-19 vaccine, and as vaccine mandates are rolled out over the US, this group has been using the audio-only app Clubhouse to spread alarmist misinformation about what the vaccine does. They are one of many new communities to emerge in the last few months who are aligning anti-vax ideology with prepping – the preparations survivalists undertake in the event of climate emergencies, disruptions to political or economic order or, in their case, when they feel they are forced by their government to take the vaccine. While preppers existed long before the coronavirus pandemic, empty shelves on supermarkets and lockdowns galvanised many to follow online prepping communities for tips.  » Read More

Snapchat Pushes Its Foot And Chances Into The Political Crevices – Digital Information World

Ever since the demanding reign of Facebook and Instagram over social media, there has been little competition that they have faced. With YouTube reigning on the video and content creating platform and LinkedIn having the controlling stake in jobs, there has been no room for users to access and developers to push forward with a new up and coming service that is expected to take the world by storm. Snapchat made that change happen and joined the duo of Instagram and Facebook to make it the holy trio of social media websites. This not only served well for them but also provided a chance to up and coming social media applications with the motivation to take a chance at the top bench. Apart from providing the chance for new apps, Snapchat recently was pushed forward as a resource for Civil change and development in the legal and political sector with many users taking it on as an imperative and resourceful creation for them. Snapchat recognizing the ability and responsibility that they have released a new Run For Office feature that gives the user the power to access specific resources for their long run to a position of change in the…
