CANCEL culture is alive and well here in America, and its biggest target at the moment is Mike Lindell, the CEO of a bedding products firm called MyPillow. His crime? Being a staunch supporter of former president Donald Trump, as well as being very vocal about possible fraud in the recent US presidential election. His punishment? So far, Lindell has been permanently banned from Twitter, several major retailers have dropped his lines, and his documentary alleging fraud in the November 2020 election, Absolute Proof, has been removed from YouTube and Vimeo. Now, in another attempt to take down MyPillow, gun control activist and Ivy League student David Hogg has started a competing company, Good Pillow. Twenty-year-old Hogg came to fame with his TV appearances in the aftermath of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in 2018. Many expressed concern at the use by CNN in particular of the young man. ‘Leftists are parading traumatised teens to make an emotional plea about gun control,’ Ben Shapiro commented at the time.  After being accepted by Harvard with a SAT score of 1270 out of 1600, much lower than the average Harvard student’s score of 1484, and amassing a Twitter following of over…

National ReviewBiden’s Executive Order on Housing: Replacing Old Sins with New OnesPresident Biden’s flurry of executive orders has now extended to housing policy — and to a pledge to reverse the Trump administration’s approach to “fair housing.” Specifically, that would mean reversing the Trump reversal of an Obama-era rule known as “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing” — designed to introduce “affordable” (read “subsidized”) housing into higher-income, suburban zip codes. To justify a return to this controversial policy, President Biden rehearsed a long litany of federal housing-policy sins. He’s right about many of those — but wrong about his approach to redress. More subsidized housing, in the tragic public-housing tradition, will only spur division and do little to help minority groups in their quest for upward mobility. It is incontrovertible, as President Biden stated in his executive order, that “during the 20th century, Federal, State, and local governments systematically implemented racially discriminatory housing policies that contributed to segregated neighborhoods and inhibited equal opportunity and the chance to build wealth for Black, Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and Native American families, and other underserved communities.” Most significantly, the Federal Housing Authority would not insure mortgages for blacks in white neighborhoods, and racial…

Clubhouse: The Exclusive Social Network Connecting Egyptians at Home and Abroad On Thursday morning, a daily Egypt ‘room’ on Clubhouse rocketed to 2,000 listeners, sparking joy and amazement among the Egyptian speakers in the room. “I was honestly shocked and amazed. For a few seconds I wasn’t able to understand what was going on but the group of amazing people who were co-moderating did great job and handled it in the best way,” says Sherin Ewase, an Egyptian Clubhouse user who regularly schedules and moderates rooms for Egyptian users. The room quickly shifted to discussions about Egyptian culture, food and travel destinations, with non-Egyptians invited to ask questions about visiting Egypt, Egyptian music and opportunities to live and work in Egypt. Clubhouse is a social media application that recently hit the Egyptian market and is currently only available on Apple devices. The app, which is currently invitation-only, allows both friends and strangers to connect in ‘rooms’ and ‘clubs’ to listen in on various topics initiated by moderators and their guests. Anyone who enters a room can ‘raise their hand’ to be invited to the ‘stage’ to speak alongside the moderators and guests. For Sherin, Clubhouse provides an opportunity for Egyptians…

As of Friday, Twitter has again reportedly complied with the government’s orders and over 97% of the accounts flagged have been blocked. The restoration and blocking of these accounts have raised several critical questions:The lack of transparency from the government in issuing such orders. The ability of big tech to refuse compliance citing international laws. And an intermediary’s liability if it fails to comply with the government’s orders. The Back And Forth Between Feb. 1 And 12Over the course of the last 10 days, according to Twitter, it received multiple blocking orders, including two emergency orders from the government that were issued under Section 69A of the Information and Technology Act.Section 69A of the IT Act allows the government to issue reasoned and written orders to intermediaries or any government agency…
