A man accused of collecting a €6,000 drugs debt with menaces was caught yesterday taking photographs on his mobile phone during his appearance at Cork District Court.23-year-old Corey O’Brien of Rockboro Heights, Waterpark, Carrigaline, County Cork, was formally served with a book of evidence by Detective Garda Ian Breen yesterday.However, before the matter could be dealt with it, it was brought to the attention of Judge Olann Kelleher that the accused was taking Snapchat images of himself in court.Garda Karen Ring who was on duty at Cork District Court confiscated the defendant’s phone.Judge Olann Kelleher addressed the defendant directly and said his phone was being seized.Corey O’Brien said to the judge:  I wasn’t taking pictures of you at all. I was just taking a photo of the court. Garda Ring confirmed that there were images from the court on the phone and that she had deleted them. UPDATE, 8:30 a.m.: Le Roy Junior-Senior High School's Twitter account has been restored one week after the account had been suspended by the social media company.The account, @LeRoy_Knights, was restored Thursday, said High School Principal Tim McArdle.The account, which frequently posts videos, photos and other updates regarding the junior-senior high school and its student body, had inactive for a week after a music copyright claim had been made for a Sept. 5, 2018, that included music that was protected by copyright. Visitors to the Twitter account saw a message from Twitter indicating the account had been suspended, but did not provide an explanation for the action.Twitter has not responded to requests for comment from The Daily News.Le Roy's Twitter account was created in 2013 and had more than 15,000 posts. NEW DELHI (AP) — India has chided Twitter for not complying with its orders to remove certain accounts and content, warning it “must respect” Indian laws “irrespective of Twitter’s own rules and guidelines.” The social media giant has found itself in a standoff with the government after it refused to fully comply with last week’s government order to remove some accounts officials accuse of spreading misinformation about ongoing protests, including those of news organizations, journalists, activists and politicians. Twitter’s actions appeared to irk the government. It served Twitter a non-compliance notice and threatened its officials with a fine and imprisonment of up to seven years for violating its order. Critics the government is using the protests to escalate a crackdown on free speech.

(KFSN) -- The Fresno County District Attorney's office is warning about an increase in teenagers and young adults ingesting counterfeit pills laced with the deadly drug fentanyl.Investigators say the pills are trafficked through Snapchat and other teen-friendly social media platforms.They are often sold as Xanax or some form of oxycodone, such as Percocet, Vicodin, or OxyContin.What the buyer usually does not know is that the drugs are laced with fentanyl, which is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine.And even a tiny dose - as little as two milligrams - is fatal for most people.Fresno County DA Lisa Smittcamp is asking parents and guardians to educate themselves and talk to their children about the dangers of illicit drugs.The DA is also partnering with the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools to provide educational materials to school districts. WASHINGTON - U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President  Xi Jinping spoke by phone late Wednesday, the first call between the two since Biden’s November victory in the U.S. presidential election. Biden “affirmed his priorities of protecting the American people’s security, prosperity, health, and way of life, and preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific,” according to a readout provided by the White House. The two leaders also discussed the coronavirus pandemic, climate change, and the possibility of Washington and Beijing pursuing what the White House described as the possibility of pursuing “practical, results-oriented engagements” on arms control. But officials said Biden also held firm on several key areas of contention. “President Biden underscored his fundamental concerns about Beijing’s coercive and unfair economic practices, crackdown in Hong Kong, human rights abuses in Xinjiang, and increasingly assertive actions in the region, including toward Taiwan,” the readout said.
