Pitt's Kenny Pickett goes on Twitter to announce he will return for the 2021 season

With three words on Twitter five days after the last game of the season, Kenny Pickett changed the entire course of the Pitt football program. For, at least, as he stated: “One more year.” Pickett, who has been Pitt’s starting quarterback since the last game of the 2017 season, indicated he is taking advantage of the NCAA one-time eligibility waiver and will return for the 2021 season, his fifth. He offered no further comment. One more year. #H2P pic.twitter.com/mb5avpKIXe — Kenny Pickett (@kennypickett10) December 16, 2020 Pickett’s decision is a bit of a surprise. He was honored with nine other seniors at the final home game Nov. 21 against Virginia Tech. But he obviously believes he has some unfinished business at Pitt after a season with high expectations ended with a 6-5 record and the team’s decision to decline a bowl invitation. Plus, another season of development would make Pickett, 22, even more attractive to the NFL in 2022. Pickett has started 37 games at Pitt after enrolling in January 2017 to get a head start on his college career. He seized the starting job from Ben DiNucci late in that season. In the process, he became the first Pitt…

Scoot's marketing VP Jacqueline Loh departs

Jacqueline Loh has moved on from her role as Scoot's VP, marketing after more than six years with the company. In a LinkedIn post, Loh (pictured) said it has been an amazing six years and never imagined she would come so far personally and professionally when she started in Scoot, or that she would have the privilege of taking the brand so far. During her time at Scoot, she was responsible for seeing the airline evolve from promo-driven tacticals to consumer insights-driven content marketing centred on storytelling and become a brand that inspires consumers to travel less ordinarily. Loh also led the shift from just 50% online buys to 100% measurable digital media, which drives almost 70% of total revenue on direct and consumer channels. Loh added in her post that this was done by building an end-to-end funnel using Echo remarketing, dynamic travel ads as well as payments to enable market penetration. Additionally, Loh also changed Scoot's practice of using adhoc email blasts to a full-fledged CRM of automated journeys by segment and behaviour. "This year, while frustrating in its lack of tangible achievements showed me that I could continue to innovate and continue to drive brand purpose meaningfully.…

Short Film Spotlighting Farmer Mental Health Released on Amazon Prime, YouTube, Vimeo

California-based production company The Factory officially released their award-winning short film ‘Dying Breed’ on Amazon Prime, YouTube, and Vimeo. The public release is the culmination of a Festival circuit that included official selections to the Sedona International Film Festival, Lone Star Film Festival, and Tallgrass Film Festival, where it received the Narrative Short Audience Award.     The 20-minute film starring Travis Myers and Tim Redmond tells the story of Jesse, a third-generation American farmer who struggles to find a way out after the impact of the trade war, climate change, and a pending bankruptcy leaves him with no choice but to sell his family’s farm. Through his eyes, ‘Dying Breed’ invites a poignant immersion into the daily toils of the modern farmer and the impossible choices that come when life and legacy are on the line.  “I find that there is an immense gap in the understanding most Americans have of the modern farmer,” said Director Adam John Brummond. “We’re obviously long past the days of horse-drawn plows and manual field labor, but lesser-known dynamics make it a significantly more arduous vocation than commonly known. To have a chance at survival, today’s farmer has to be a student of agronomy, the…

Indy man charged with murder after Facebook dispute leads to deadly shooting

by: Jesse Wells Posted: Dec 15, 2020 / 04:05 PM EST / Updated: Dec 15, 2020 / 04:05 PM EST INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man is behind bars and charged with murder following a deadly shooting two months ago on Indy’s near northeast side. The death is not the first time gun violence has torn apart the victim’s family. According to court records, the accused killer spotted the victim driving at an apartment complex on Baltimore.  The suspect then allegedly followed the victim for a half mile before ambushing him while sitting at a red light at 30th and Keystone. The 22-year-old victim, Daniel Baxter, crashed his silver Chevy after being shot five times through the passenger window. “Every time you turn around someone is burying their child and it needs to stop,” said the victim’s mother Brandy Hughes.  “When they took my son from me, it left a hole in my heart I can never get back.” Prosecutors claim the killing was caught on camera and showed the suspect, Keith Cole, jump out of his car, open fire and then speed away down Keystone. Those cameras spotted the license plate of the getaway car, leading to the arrest. According…

U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee via REUTERS/File Photo“The way out is through. I believe the only way forward is to keep working,” Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg told employees, according to audio of the address heard by Reuters.Zuckerberg acknowledged that criticism of Facebook had hurt staff morale, saying public scrutiny “comes with the territory.” But he also struck a defiant tone, arguing that at least some of the pushback came from rivals or those with an interest in tarnishing Facebook’s reputation.“We also have to recognize that we have many competitors, and there are people who believe that their success depends on us failing. So it’s important that we don’t just reflexively accept all criticism,”…

I spent a week with Filmora's editing software and produced professional video

Often video editing software is complex and hard to use for ordinary users. Predominantly designed for video professionals, software suites can be difficult for most people. Yet video editing tools like Windows video editor seem to lack the complexity of some of the higher-end video editing suites, and it seems that components are missing from some of the software packages. That said, I tried Wondershare Filmora software from the Iskysoft site on my Windows 10 PC. It is also available for Mac, and there are 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and 8, as well. Eileen Brown The app seems slow to initialize as it checks the GPU speed before the app launches. Once launched, import the media you want -- video clips, images, and audio files -- then drag and drop the clips, titles, transitions, effects, and other items to the video timeline. You can split parts of video clips using the scissors tool and drag them to different tracks on the timeline.Move the slider to where you want to start watching the video and click the play button. When you have finished editing, you can export the video to your PC or share it across social media. You can export video…

11-year-old-author-on-new-book-'sincerely,-emerson'-and-viral-twitter-thread-on-letter-writing

11-Year-Old Author On New Book 'Sincerely, Emerson' And Viral Twitter Thread On Letter Writing

In May, a Twitter thread by 11-year-old Emerson Weber’s father Hugh about her love of letter writing and a thank-you note to her postal carrier, Doug, went viral, garnering over 70,000 likes, over 40,000 retweets and major media attention from CNN and Good Morning America, among others. The ode to snail mail led to a new book, Sincerely, Emerson: A Girl, Her Letter, and the Helpers All Around Us (HarperCollins), illustrated by Jaclyn Sinquett, which was published last week, with a first print run of 50,000 copies. Emerson Weber The book chronicles Emerson’s letter-writing adventures, which culminated in an influx of mail in response to her letter to Doug from other postal workers, and even a package from her idol, Taylor Swift, who Weber took a cue from and included Easter eggs related to Swift in the book. I interviewed the young author as well as HarperCollins Executive Editor Kristen Pettit about how the book came about, Emerson’s pen pal journey, the importance of letter writing and how kids can get started writing letters. Emerson Weber will take part in a Barnes & Noble virtual storytime on December 26 to read from the book and offer letter-writing techniques to kids.…
