14-year-old accused in Volusia school shooting threats, sheriff's office says HOLLY HILL, Fla. — A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody Friday at his home in Holly Hill after allegedly making shooting threats naming two high schools, according to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office said on social media that its Domestic Security Unit and School Resource Unit worked with the Daytona Beach Police Department to investigate the alleged threats, which were made on Snapchat and claimed that shootings would occur at Seabreeze and Mainland high schools. Volusia County detectives helped Daytona Beach police work with Snapchat and Apple to identify the source of the posts as a 14-year-old Mainland High School student who had been suspended from school a day prior "for making threatening statements on campus," according to the sheriff's office. Deputies contacted the boy, took him into custody, and turned him over to Daytona Beach police to face two counts of making written threats to kill, as well as unlawful use of a two-way communication device, the post states.

Dylan Williams, 27, is charged with coercion and enticement, transportation with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct, according to a federal criminal complaint filed Aug. 28 in U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware. Investigators allege Williams began communicating with the teenager through Snapchat in June, knew she was 15 and later drove from Delaware to Pennsylvania to pick her up. Authorities found the girl at Williams’ Camden-area residence Aug. 20 after her parents reported her missing, according to the complaint. LOGAN — A 37-year-old Logan man was arrested Monday on multiple felony charges after authorities say he sent explicit images and videos of himself to a 16-year-old girl on Snapchat. Jorge Alberto Cruz was taken into custody Aug. 31, and booked into the Cache County Jail on four counts of distributing material harmful to a minor, one count of enticing a minor and one count of providing false information to a peace officer, according to an affidavit of probable cause. The investigation began after the girl’s mother found conversations on her daughter’s phone in which an adult man had sent pictures of their genitals. Detectives examined the phone with the mother’s consent and reviewed a Snapchat account under the username “a_wences23.” In chats with the victim, the account user was told the girl was 16 years old on March 12. In April, the account sent several inappropriate pictures and messages. Additional photos and a video of the sender were also sent, the affidavit states. A search warrant for the Snapchat account returned subscriber information identifying the user as Jonathan Wences.
