ANCHORAGE – A federal jury convicted an Anchorage man on Friday for sex trafficking a minor and production and possession of child pornography. According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Jayshon Moore, aka “China,” 39, began having sexual encounters with the minor victim when she was 15 years old. In 2018, he created numerous sexually explicit videos of the minor which were saved on social media. Moore possessed two videos of child pornography in his Snapchat account. In the spring of 2019 Moore sex trafficked the minor victim, setting prices, arranging transactions and taking the money she earned from commercial sex acts. Moore was previously convicted of drug trafficking and firearms offenses, and he was arrested in June 2019 after violating terms of his supervised release. Law enforcement executed a search of Moore’s residence and found additional evidence of sex trafficking. Moore was indicted by a grand jury in February 2020. “The exploitation of a minor for profit is a heinous crime requiring a staggering disregard for the safety and welfare of the victim,” said U.S. Attorney John E. Sarah Tew/CNET TikTok, the short-form video app and social media platform, might be under scrutiny by a pair of US government agencies concerning its handling of child sexual abuse materials, according to a report Friday by the Financial Times. Both the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice are investigating TikTok, the report said.An anonymous source told the FT that the US Department of Justice is reviewing how a specific TikTok privacy feature is being exploited by predators. "It is a perfect place for predators to meet, groom and engage children," Erin Burke, unit chief of the child exploitation investigations unit at Homeland Security's cybercrime division, told the publication.When asked about the report, TikTok told CNET over email, "We're not aware of any of the government investigations as alleged by the Financial Times, but TikTok has a zero tolerance policy on CSAM. Snapchat has added a new Dynamic Stories feature after unveiling the new ASL Language Lens for all of its customers. Consumers will now be able to see news and other noteworthy items in the Discover stream thanks to the new functionality. In other words, Snapchat will make Stories using the online material produced by authorized media organizations and artists. (WMTV) - A wrongful death lawsuit in the suicide of a 17-year-old Wisconsin boy was filed Tuesday, which alleges that the companies who run Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat knowingly sold social media products that are designed to be addictive to minors and cause harmful results. Social Media Victims Law Center (SMVLC) filed the lawsuit against Meta Platforms, Inc. and Snap, Inc. in the death of 17-year-old Christopher J. “CJ” Dawley. The Salem-native was an honor student who was involved in many extra-curricular activities up until 2012 when he joined Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, according to SMVLC.In two years’ time, the law firm claims Dawley became addicted to the platforms which caused issues including sleep deprivation and body image issues. After developing a pain in his legs in 2014, the law firm states that Dawley decided to kill himself due to the belief that body was permanently deficient.The teen’s parents, Chris and Donna Dawley, said that while no amount of money could ever compensate them, they are hoping that their actions will hold the social media platforms accountable.“If our effort to hold these companies responsible for exposing kids to their deadly products prevents even one family from experiencing the…
