According to TechCrunch, Meta has tapped a handful of creators to create and publish video series that utilize their new and existing Reels. Each video segment, or Reel, should become part of a larger story or message that will be visible in a dedicated hub on the creator’s profile. "If a creator is doing a '10 days of healthier baking' series, they can bundle all 10 videos into a single series," TechCrunch notes, adding that "people can find all the episodes, watch them in order, and pick up where they left off." While scrolling the Reels feed on Instagram or Facebook, users may begin seeing the option to watch a full series related to specific videos, with the added ability to save series to watch at a later time. advertisement advertisement The feature mirrors a TikTok feature of the same name, which launched in 2023, allowing eligible creators to post up to 80 paywalled videos between 30 seconds and 20 minutes long into a unified collection for paying fans.

The Kokomo Police Department is investigating a child solicitation case after a 10-year-old boy was allegedly coerced into sending inappropriate videos to people on social media and gaming platforms, including Roblox. That's according to court documents, which also say the suspect used Snapchat to contact him. The Howard County Prosecutor's Office formally charged Dominique Jose Castrejon, of Moreno Valley, California, with one count of child solicitation. It all started when Kokomo Police got a call from the child's grandmother, stating she found her grandson had been sending inappropriate photos and videos in exchange for Robux, which is the currency used on the gaming platform Roblox. Kokomo Police found the videos and photos were sexually explicit in nature, according to court documents. During a forensic interview alongside the Indiana Howard County Department of Child Services, the 10-year-old boy stated he has accounts on multiple platforms including YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Twitch and Zangi, using a fake birthday to get around some of the age restrictions. The boy told officers he had been contacted by strangers to send inappropriate videos on several of the platforms and that he had been both paid in Robux and, at times, threatened. In exchange for

BREATHITT COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - Breathitt County Schools is set to receive a $27 million settlement from four social media companies. In 2023, the district filed a lawsuit against Snapchat, Meta, TikTok and YouTube, accusing the companies of creating addictive technologies that hurt student mental health and forced schools to spend more on counseling and other services. The district will receive $27 million from the companies instead of the case going to trial as scheduled next week. Bellwether case avoids trial Breathitt County Schools’ case against Meta, TikTok, YouTube and Snapchat was viewed as a bellwether case against the social media giants. According to Bloomberg News, it was set to be the first of more than 1,300 similar lawsuits filed by districts across the U.S. to go to trial. The trial was supposed to start on June 12, but instead, the companies have agreed to pay the district a combined $27 million. Bloomberg reports Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, will pay the most at $9 million. Snapchat and TikTok each agreed to pay $8 million, and YouTube will pay just over $2 million. A Key West Police employee was arrested and charged with crimes in the Florida Keys that could lead to 100 years in prison. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s investigation began when agents received a cybertip submitted by Snapchat. FDLE confirmed that at the time 21-year-old Jacob Rookey committed these crimes, he was employed by the Key West Police Department as a 911 telecommunicator, but his brief employment with the Key West PD was terminated. FDLE agents, along with the FDLE Special Operations Team and the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, served a search warrant at Rookey’s residence and seized numerous electronic devices for digital forensic analysis. The investigation into Rookey was launched when the Broward County Sheriff’s Office (BSO) received a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Rookeywas possessing, viewing, and transmitting CSAM via Snapchat. BSO identified Rookey by his IP address and determined that jurisdiction belonged to FDLE Florida Keys. That led to the discovery of communications in which Rookey was buying/selling CSAM and animal sexual abuse materials as well as soliciting minors to send him CSAM. A Tasmanian man who pointed a firearm at his partner’s mother and 15-year-old sister and threatened to shoot them has avoided immediate imprisonment. Joel Keith Lomas, 28, was sentenced in the Supreme Court to 14 months’ jail, wholly suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to aggravated assault. The court heard that on October 26, 2024, Lomas’s partner phoned her mother after an argument and asked to be picked up. The woman drove to the home with her 15-year-old daughter. When they pulled up outside, Lomas opened the front door, looked at the car, then went back inside. Seconds later, he reappeared holding a firearm. He pointed it at the pair and said: “If you don’t f–king leave right now I am going to f–king shoot you.” The teenager told her mother to drive away. They went around the corner and called police, but officers were unable to find the firearm and no charges were laid at the time. The case was cracked open by Lomas himself.
