Officers from Plainfield and Putnam will be at their town’s respective schools today in response to a social media image circulating that suggests the possibility of violence.Officials from both departments said the Snapchat message is not regarded as a credible threat locally, though police planned have an increased police presence and more patrols at the buildings today.In Putnam, police were monitoring a message they said “suggests violence towards a school with the initials ‘PHHS.’”Putnam Superintendent Daniel Sullivan said he has been in contact with police about the possible threat, which he said is believed to be tied to Penn Hills High School in Pennsylvania, where an arrest was made on Tuesday."Unfortunately situations like this often lead to 'copycat' incidents," Sullivan wrote. There are extra police at schools in Plainfield on Wednesday after a potential threat was posted on the social media app Snapchat and police have traced the threat to a school out of state. Police said they have received numerous calls about a viral Snapchat message about a shooting taking place on Wednesday at "phhs." Authorities said they worked with multiple law enforcement partners including in other states to determine the origin of the message. On Wednesday morning, district officials in Plainfield said police traced the threat to a student at Penn Hills High School in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania. The person responsible for the post has been taken into custody in Pennsylvania, they added. Local At this time, there has been no credible threat to any school within the town of Plainfield, according to police. Plainfield schools are open on Wednesday. Extra police officers will be present at all of the schools in town to ensure the safety of students and staff, investigators added. Anyone who sees the message is encouraged not to share it. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Plainfield Police at (860) 564-0804.
