Teen accused of torching Mississippi synagogue posted hospital selfie of severe burns …

The man accused of torching a Mississippi synagogue posted a graphic selfie hours after the antisemitic attack, showing off his nasty burns. Stephen Pittman, 19, shared the grisly shot on Snapchat Saturday — the same day Beth Israel Congregation in Jackson was gutted by a pre-dawn inferno, the Clarion Ledger reported. Pittman raised his swollen and severely burned left hand in the photo while his bemused face was covered in pink scorch marks. Stephen Pittman, 19, posted the photo of the synagogue fire. Snapchat/Spencer Pittman It remains unclear whether he was in custody when the selfie was posted, but Pittman was arrested Saturday after his father found him covered in burns and he allegedly confessed to the crime. Beth Israel was left severely damaged after the fire, which was set by a masked individual caught on security footage dumping a can of gasoline across its lobby and halls. Megan Garcia Named to Business Insider’s AI Power List as a Safety Advocate

The Social Media Victims Law Center proudly recognizes our client, Attorney Megan Garcia, for being named to Business Insider’s AI Power List—a selection of key players shaping the next wave of AI innovation—as a leading safety advocate in the space. This national recognition reflects Garcia’s extraordinary courage and tireless advocacy in confronting the real-world harms caused by unsafe artificial intelligence systems—especially those impacting children. Following the devastating loss of her 14-year-old son, Sewell Setzer III, in February 2024, Garcia took action to protect other families from experiencing similar harm. She filed a lawsuit against an AI companion startup, alleging that its chatbot products are unsafe for minors. Garcia has since testified before Congress, calling on lawmakers to hold tech companies accountable for deploying AI systems that can inflict psychological harm on vulnerable users. Her advocacy helped bring national attention to the dangers of AI companions marketed without meaningful safeguards. As reported by Business Insider, Garcia has spoken publicly about how chatbot systems collect and exploit children’s most intimate thoughts, emotions, and vulnerabilities for profit—often without parents’ knowledge or consent. Her work has already driven meaningful change: following her testimony and public advocacy, the AI companion startup her son used barred

Australia: Meta blocks nearly 550 accounts under country’s social media ban law

Meta has removed nearly 550,000 accounts of users under 16 as part of Australia's ban on minors accessing social media platforms, the first measure of its kind in the world, Agenzia Nova reported. Photo credit: haber7.com Between December 4 and 11, over 330,000 Instagram accounts, approximately 173,000 Facebook accounts, and nearly 40,000 Threads accounts were deleted. The ban officially went into effect on December 10, but Meta began removing users a week earlier, notifying affected users in November and allowing them to download their data. Previously, the company estimated that there were approximately 300,000 Instagram users and 150,000 Facebook users in Australia between the ages of 13 and 15, in addition to cases of minors under the age of 16 registering with false information or with the help of their parents. Meta relies on the British company Yoti to verify age, using ID or video selfies. The company reiterated that compliance with the law will require gradual adjustments and called for app stores to be required to verify age and obtain parental consent. According to a university survey, 79 percent of Australian adults support the ban, while 70 percent of minors are opposed. The measure limits access to ten major
