An Illinois man has been charged with hacking into the Snapchat accounts of nearly 600 women in order to steal their nude photos and sell them online, including to a former Northeastern University track coach, prosecutors announced Wednesday. Kyle Svara, 26, of Oswego, Ill., faces federal counts of aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, computer fraud, conspiracy, and false statements related to child pornography, U.S. District Attorney Leah B. Foley’s office said in a statement. Svara allegedly manipulated victims into sharing their emails, phone numbers, and Snapchat usernames, which he used to access their accounts, the statement said. When the hacking triggered Snapchat to send security codes to affected users, he used an anonymous phone number to text them, posing as a Snap Inc. representative and asking for the codes. Approximately 570 women complied, and Svara was able to access the accounts of at least 59 of them, according to the statement. Svara then downloaded the women’s nude or semi-nude photos in order to sell or trade them online. In some cases, he had been hired by other users, such as former Northeastern track coach Steve Waithe, to steal the photos of specific women they knew or had relationships with. Waithe

Having friends is considered as one of the purest relationships shared by humans, requiring nothing but good intentions and mutual trust. Gen Z is often described as the most connected generation. However, much of this connection occurs online rather than through face-to-face interactions. This constant exposure has conditioned them to feel more connected online. Unlike older generations, whose friendships largely depended on physical spaces and in-person interactions, Gen Z’s social networks extend far beyond geographical boundaries. According to a survey conducted by Tinder, about 68 per cent of Indian Gen Z respondents found it easier to build connections online, and 67 per cent agreed that meeting people online felt liberating.
