A juvenile from Mount Joy has been charged with disseminating child sexual abuse material over social media and attempting to destroy evidence when police began investigating.  According to the Mount Joy Borough Police Department, a 14 year-old boy has been charged with eight counts of sexual abuse of children, five counts of terroristic threats, witness intimidation, indecent assault and other related offenses following a monthlong investigation.  Police say the boy shared seven pieces of sexual abuse material to a groupchat on the social media and messaging app Snapchat in September. Once police began investigating, they say the boy attempted to interfere by intimidating two witnesses into giving false information to investigators.  According to police, the boy had indecent contact with a 12-year-old child and threatened to commit acts of violence against five additional victims ranging from the age of 13 to 32.  The defendant destroyed a cellphone with the intention of preventing detectives from obtaining evidence, according to a statement released by Mount Joy Police on Tuesday following the boy’s arrest.  Mount Joy Borough police did not immediately respond to requests for additional information regarding the investigation Tuesday evening.  This is a breaking news story and will be updated when

According to CBS 19, the arrest documents show that he was using the social media platform Snapchat to take advantage of children attempting to get these photos and videos. He would then threaten to share the images online. The man arrested was 21-year-old East Texan Samuel Leal Vega, he was booked into the Smith County Jail on a $1 million bond for possession of child pornography with intent to promote. Police Say Vega Pretended to Be a Teen Girl The arrest report stated that Vega would use Snapchat pretending to be a teenage girl, which would make it easier for him to obtain the inappropriate photos and videos. After he received the images or videos from the victims, he would then threaten them to comply with whatever he wanted. Snapchat’s AI tools are causing major headaches for law enforcement in the United States after kids have been using the latest “homeless” filter to create fake videos to scare people and pull pranks. The trend has grown so out of control that law enforcement have issued warnings asking people to stop pulling pranks using the filter and instead, find other content to create.  The filter has gone viral for all the wrong reasons. It essentially sees people use the Snapchat AI tool to create images of a dirty man in their home, and kids are sending these photos to their parents. The tool is quite versatile to the point where you can picture this dirty man sitting on your couch, or even lying in bed.  Of course, kids are then picturing themselves lying next to the man or perhaps sitting next to him in an overly friendly manner. Once created, these images are sent to parents, and the kids film the reactions and upload them to TikTok. Here, they garner millions of views as the parents obviously freak out about it.  However, the issue here is that parents have started calling the police regarding this “dirty man” in their homes.

Europe is asking tough questions, and the world’s biggest tech companies now have to answer. This week, the European Union called on Apple, Google, YouTube and Snapchat to prove they are protecting children online. It’s a defining test of the Digital Services Act (DSA), the law that is reshaping how the internet works across Europe. The call came from EU Tech Commissioner Henna Virkkunen, who confirmed that formal Requests for Information (RFIs) have been sent to each platform. They must now provide detailed proof of how they keep minors safe from harmful content and data misuse. Virkkunen said: “These measures are about accountability. When minors use online services, a very high level of privacy, security and safety must be ensured. That’s why we have the Digital Services Act in place.” Her words echoed a growing mood in Europe, a shift from guidance to enforcement.
