As Facebook, YouTube, TikTok And Snapchat Go Dark In Nepal, Gen Z-Led Protests Over …

On Monday, Nepal's decision to block access to major social media platforms triggered the country's deadliest unrest in decades, as Gen Z-led protests over corruption and censorship spiraled into violence. Social Media Shutdown Sparks Youth Anger Authorities last week restricted access to Facebook, Meta Platforms, Inc.'s META Instagram and WhatsApp, Alphabet Inc.'s GOOG GOOGL YouTube, ByteDance-owned TikTok, Snap Inc.'s SNAP Snapchat, Micrososft Corporation's MSFT LinkedIn, Reddit Inc. RDDT, and other apps, saying companies had failed to register under new rules designed to curb misinformation and online fraud. About 90% of Nepal's 30 million citizens use the internet, making the blackout a shock to daily life, reported Reuters. "Shut down corruption and not social media," read placards carried by student protesters in Kathmandu. Demonstrators — many wearing school or college uniforms — broke through barricades outside parliament, set an ambulance on fire and clashed with riot police who responded with tear gas, batons and rubber bullets, the report said. Meta, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Snap and LinkedIn did not immediately respond to Benzinga’s request for comments.  Also Read: Elon Musk Returns To Intense Work Schedule: ‘Back To Working 7 Days a Week and Sleeping in the Office' Casualties And Resignation Officials confirmed at

Fargo Police Arrest Juvenile for School Shooting Threat Posted on Snapchat as ‘Joke’

By Payton Gall Sep 8, 2025 | 5:16 PM Fargo Police arrested a juvenile Saturday for making a school threat the individual claimed was a “joke.” According to information shared by Fargo Police, officers responded after a parent reported their child saw a Snapchat video showing what appeared to be a firearm, with the poster indicating they would bring it to school. Police quickly identified the suspect and recovered an AR-style BB gun from their residence. The juvenile was arrested on terrorizing charges and taken to juvenile detention. Fargo Police say they have zero tolerance for school violence threats, saying such behavior causes fear and disrupts schools regardless of intent. Snapchat is taking another step into generative AI, with its new “Imagine” Lens, which enables users to recreate images from the Snap camera or their camera roll using text prompts. As you can see in this example, much like Meta’s “Imagine Yourself” AI option, or YouTube’s “Dream Screen,” or TikTok’s “AI Self” process, or even Snapchat’s own “Dreams” AI option, Snapchat’s new Imagine option will give you another way to use AI to re-contextualize your selfies, and/or other images. As explained by Snap: “ Today we’re introducing the Imagine Lens, our first Open Prompt Image Generation Lens. With the Imagine Lens, Snapchatters can create, edit, and recreate Snaps simply by entering their own prompts, then seamlessly share them with friends, post to their Story, or outside of Snapchat.” So it’s different from Snap’s Dreams Lens, which it launched back in 2023, in that this process enables you to enter in a description for your AI generation.

I ordered drug-laced vapes on Snapchat. It was as easy as picking up pizza – BBC

I ordered drug-laced vapes on Snapchat. It was as easy as picking up pizza Ushma Mistry BBC Midlands Investigations The BBC bought vape liquid that later tested positive for street drug spice It is a sunny spring afternoon in Warwickshire and I'm parked up in a nondescript hatchback with my cameraman, poised to meet a drug dealer. He has agreed to sell what he claims to be THC vape liquids to a schoolgirl – an illegal substance which is the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis. However, we suspect it actually contains spice, a more potent drug that is highly addictive and can cause serious side effects. And unbeknown to him, the "schoolgirl" is an undercover BBC reporter who has been messaging him on Snapchat. On Friday we published an article exposing these drug dealers who are selling vape liquid laced with spice to unwitting teenagers through adverts posted on the social media site. It came after we went undercover to catch the dealers in the act. Teenagers revealed they did not initially realise they had been vaping spice A year ago I saw social media posts from two mums worried about their teenage daughters, who started vaping what they thought

Colorado man pleads guilty to sextortion of at least 68 children in “almost every state”

Colo. (KKTV) - A Colorado man has pled guilty to the sextortion of at least 68 children in “nearly every state” through social media and sex trafficking at least five of those children, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO). USAO said 31-year-old Ryan Austin Lauless of Colorado pled guilty to 21 counts of sexual exploitation of a child, five counts of sex trafficking of a minor, two counts of noticing and advertising child sexual abuse material and possession of child sexual abuse material. Officials said the victims ranged from 13 to 16 years old at the time of the offenses and lived in nearly every state in the United States, as well as at least five foreign countries. Court documents say that between late 2019 and May 19, 2023, Lauless used social media apps including Instagram, Snapchat, Discord, Yubo and Purp to coerce, sexually exploit and threaten at least 68 minor victims into producing thousands of sexually explicit images and videos. USAO said Lauless had misrepresented his identity, representing himself as “Cason Fredrickson,” a teenager from New York or other cities. In reality, officials said he was in his late 20s, living in hotels and motels in Colorado and

Two Perkins Township teens charged after sexually explicit Snapchat spreads across school districts

Police say the video circulated among students in at least five districts, prompting felony charges. SANDUSKY, Ohio — Two teens are facing felony charges after police say a sexually explicit Snapchat video spread across five school districts in the Sandusky area. According to Perkins Township police, the case began with an 18-year-old high school senior and his 16-year-old girlfriend sharing nude videos with each other on Snapchat. While their relationship itself was legal under Ohio law, police say it became illegal once explicit content was shared, since the girl is still a minor. “A lot of this type of stuff, sexting and these types of videos being new, the law hasn’t caught up yet. And maybe someday it will change,” said Detective Joe Rotuno. “But in the meantime, they were breaking the law.” The situation escalated when the 16-year-old saved one of the videos to her account. A 14-year-old friend who had access to her Snapchat login discovered the clip, and police say he sent it to two of his friends, who then shared it with more students. Investigators now estimate the video has been viewed by “hundreds” of students across at least five school districts. The 18-year-old has been
