U.K. Government AI Plans Dealt Blow in Move Backed by Major Artists – Billboard

The House of Lords voted on an amendment to the government's data bill late on Monday. berya113/Getty Images The U.K. government’s plans to allow artificial intelligence firms to use copyrighted work, including music, have been dealt another setback by the House of Lords. An amendment to the data bill which required AI companies to disclose the copyrighted works their models are trained on was backed by peers in the upper chamber of U.K. Parliament, despite government opposition. The U.K.’s government has proposed an “opt out” approach for copyrighted material, meaning that the creator or owner must explicitly choose for their work not to be eligible for training AI models. The amendment was tabled by crossbench peer Beeban Kidron and was passed by 272 votes to 125 on Monday (May 12). The data bill will now return to the House of Commons, though the government could remove Kidron’s amendment and send the bill back to the House of Lords next week. Trending on Billboard Kidron said: “I want to reject the notion that those of us who are against government plans are against technology. Creators do not deny the creative and economic value of AI, but we do deny the assertion

Amitabh Bachchan breaks silence on Pahalgam—not with his baritone, but with his father’s poetry

New Delhi: Amitabh Bachchan returned to social media Thursday, breaking his silence on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, with poetry and Vijay Deenanath Chauhan’s Agneepath line. The actor put out a long post on X in Hindi describing the horror of one of the Pahalgam victims.  In an apparent show of solidarity with the victims, the Bollywood superstar had been sharing blank tweets on X and blank posts on his blog since 22 April. The actor mentioned Manjunath Rao, a businessman from Karnataka’s Shivamogga,  who was on vacation in Kashmir with his wife and son. Rao was one of the 26 people gunned down by terrorists on the fateful day at Pahalgam. “His wife fell at his feet and said do not kill him .. but he mercilessly shot him, and made the wife a widow in front of her eyes .. the wife then begged this monster, this demon, to kill her also .. this devil of a man said: ‘I won’t kill you .. you go and tell Modi’ ..!!” wrote the actor. Amitabh Bachchan also shared a few lines from his father and poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan’s poem Aaj Mujhse Door Duniya . The actor

Fairgrieve’s “Geography and World Power” in Geopolitics – SpecialEurasia

Introduction James Fairgrieve’s Geography and World Power, first published in 1915, remains a critical reference for those seeking to understand the geographical determinants of political power. A product of the First World War, this book offers a historically informed analysis of geography’s impact on state building, military strategy, and global power. While Sir Halford Mackinder’s work eclipsed this book, Fairgrieve’s geopolitical analysis presciently predicted several trends in modern geopolitics, notably the rising importance of the United States, China, and India. The report underscored the lasting importance of Fairgrieve’s work for current geopolitical analysts and strategists. Geography and World Power remains a recommended foundational reading for participants aiming to understand the long-term constants in geopolitics. “Geography and World Power”: A Review Fairgrieve centres his work on the premise that geography shapes not only history but also the distribution and exercise of political power. Geography and World Power explores the influence of geographical factors, as clearly defined by Fairgrieve, on political development and international conflicts. The author structured the book historically and regionally. It begins with the deserts and river valleys of Egypt and Mesopotamia, two regions that Fairgrieve interpreted as “The Beginning of History”, and moves through the ancient trade routes

Taylor Swift Subpoenaed in Legal Feud Between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni – Billboard

The pop star's reps slam the subpoena for "creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case." Taylor Swift asiste a la 67a entrega anual de los premios Grammy el 2 de febrero de 2025 en Los Ángeles. Matt Winkelmeyer/Getty Images for The Recording Academy Taylor Swift has been hit with a subpoena that officially drags her into the tense legal drama between her friend Blake Lively and Lively’s It Ends With Us director and co-star Justin Baldoni. And the pop star’s reps aren’t happy, saying the move is “designed to use Taylor Swift’s name to draw public interest by creating tabloid clickbait instead of focusing on the facts of the case.” The subpoena, reportedly sent to Swift by Baldoni’s legal team, makes her a witness in the messy legal battle over alleged sexual harassment, retaliation and defamation stemming from It Ends With Us, which was released last year. But Swift’s representatives say she has no place in the fight between Baldoni and Lively. “Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or
