Meet Maria Rasin (née Ponomaryova) – Canvas Rebel

Newsletter Sed ut perspiciatis unde. Subscribe Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maria Rasin (née Ponomaryova). We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below. Alright, Maria thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally. The first time I realized I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally was when I was about 14 years old. This was around 2010 — back when Tumblr was at its peak. I’m not even sure how many people still remember it now, but at the time it was a huge creative space where people shared photography, quotes, and aesthetics. I’ve always loved reading, and at that age I started collecting quotes that really resonated with me. I began posting them on Tumblr, pairing them with beautiful, inspiring images I took. It started as something very simple — just sharing things that moved me. My blog grew incredibly fast, and before long it had over 600,000 followers, which was a massive audience for that platform back then. At first, I was just excited

The Hidden Joy of Exploring Game Worlds Without A Checklist – Critical Hit

Some of the best moments in gaming happen when nothing important seems to be happening at all. A strange path curves away from the main road. A ruined tower sits on a distant ridge. A village glows in the dark with no marker above it and no prompt telling you to stop.  That kind of discovery has become rare in an era shaped by icons, task logs, and constant nudges, which is exactly why it still feels so good. There is real pleasure in wandering through a game world with no fixed agenda. You notice sound design, little bits of environmental storytelling, odd enemy placements, and the way a map slowly starts to feel familiar.  Instead of treating exploration like a chore between quests, players get to enjoy uncertainty again. The world feels bigger, and your time inside it feels more personal. Why Unscripted Exploration Still Feels Special A checklist gives structure, but it can also dull surprise. When every cave, collectible, and side activity is marked on the map, exploration starts to feel like route planning. Players stop wondering what lies over the next hill and start thinking about the next task to clear. Games that leave room for

What does loneliness smell like? Inside the strangely soothing world of fragrance TikTok

I was bestowed with a nickname throughout my younger years: Smellanor. When I decided to go by Elle, the nickname evolved with it: Smell. I’m always a sucker for a fun rhyme. But it did make me hypervigilant about maintaining what I actually smelled like, vowing that this moniker would never manifest itself into reality. Thus began my ongoing journey into the wild world of fragrances. Years later, during one of my many late night TikTok binges, I stumbled across my first set of perfume-inspired image carousels that assigned scent profiles to abstract concepts, almost each one accompanied with a slowed-down version of Robert Miles’s Eurodance hit, Children. The age of 18, for example, has a scent profile of sweat, vodka, lip gloss, musk and lace. Looking at old photos too long smells like paper, iris, amber, musk and cedar. The first time passing a joint includes grass, fog, smoke, lip gloss and (obviously) cannabis. The majority of these images – made via the perfume database site Fragrantica – focus on adolescent nostalgia, twinged with the specific sense of melancholy associated with 2010s teenhood. But they possess such universal relatability that I reckon any generation can get in on the

Morro Bay State Park seeks kayak and stand-up paddleboard volunteers

– Morro Bay State Park is seeking volunteers who enjoy kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) to join the SeaLife Stewards Volunteer Program for the 2026 season. Applications must be submitted by April 7. Now in its 11th year, the program sends volunteers out on the waters of Morro Bay every weekend during the summer to connect with fellow recreationists and promote responsible wildlife viewing. Volunteers participate in one in-person training and one on-the-water training and evaluation. Training, led by subject matter experts, covers wildlife identification, boating safety, and effective ways to engage with people on the water to increase public awareness and reduce wildlife disturbance. Many wildlife species in Morro Bay are sensitive to repeated disturbance from watercraft. SeaLife Stewards provide roving educational opportunities for water recreators, including sharing safe viewing guidelines for Southern sea otters, harbor seals, California sea lions, and birds that rely on Morro Bay for food, shelter, and resting habitat. Volunteers must be able to swim and kayak. Stand-up paddleboard participants must bring their own board. Accepted volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of two four-hour shifts per month and must complete registration paperwork, a Live Scan background check, and the required training. Mandatory

Zohran Mamdani Wife’s Account Disappears After Old Posts Spark Fury – Newsweek

A historic social media account attributed to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s wife, Rama Duwaji, appears to have been deactivated amid scrutiny over resurfaced posts. Duwaji faced backlash after The Washington Free Beacon reported that, when she was in her teens and early 20s, posts were made using a racial slur and celebrating Palestinian militant actions on X and Tumblr accounts that appeared inactive for some time. While the alleged Tumblr account still appears to be visible online, the X account, which has the username @_RamaDee, seems to have been deactivated. Social media activity on X, viewed by Newsweek, suggests that other users were able to respond to old posts as recently as Thursday. Newsweek was unable to independently verify the accounts belonged to Duwaji, and it's not clear who deleted the X account. The Washington Free Beacon said it linked the X account to her through facial recognition technology. Newsweek has contacted the New York Mayor's office, via email outside of normal working hours, for comment. Mamdani has previously stressed that his wife is a "private person" who has never held any elected position or had any official role on his campaign or his city hall. Why It Matters The online conversation underscores how historical social media activity

Enjoy Some Tumblr Posts And Memes Today

Once upon a time, Tumblr was one of the most used social media sites on the Internet. Tumblr was a social media site popular with teens and young adults in the 2010s, and for good reason. It was a huge gathering place for those into fandoms, to start, and it was one of the most customizable platforms around. People could modify their blogs to appear exactly how they wanted them to. On top of that, this social media site allowed for just about anything to be posted and shared, which thrilled people. Over the years, Tumblr experienced some changes in terms of ownership and rules. With new owners came new rules that banned a lot of content people liked. These changes, among other things, drove some people away from Tumblr onto new platforms. There is still a lot going on on Tumblr, and there are all kinds of jokes and memes coming from the site. Take a moment this afternoon to enjoy some memes and posts from a side of the Internet that isn't as common these days. These Tumblr posts are refreshing, and might inspire someone to revisit the site this weekend. An apple a day… (Source: Reddit) Wheel

(AP Photo/Angelina Katsanis) WASHINGTON (TNND) — New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s wife Ruma Duwaji praised Palestinian terrorists on different social media accounts as a young adult. According to a review of Duwaji’s social media posts by The Washington Free Beacon, she praised Palestinian terrorist Leila Khaled on her old Tumblr account in 2017. She quoted one of Khaled’s most famous statement on the social media website. "If it does good for my cause, I'll be happy to accept death," the caption on the post reads, according to the newspaper. Khaled participated in plane hijackings in 1969 and 1970. Many of Duwaji’s accounts appear not to be active anymore. Most of the posts happened while she was in the Middle East. She is of Syrian descent, but spent a lot of her childhood in New Jersey. Her family moved to Dubai in 2006. In 2015, Duwaji praised Shadia Abu Ghazaleh, who participated in bombing an Israeli bus and other terrorist attacks. She died when a
