Tumblr says it’s reversing reblog notes change after user backlash – PiunikaWeb

Tumblr is walking back a major change to how reblog notes work, less than two days after pushing it live. The company shared its statement on X, saying the reaction had been strong and that it would not pretend otherwise. As we reported yesterday, the update immediately got most users up in arms and demanding a revert. Instead of funneling likes, reblogs, and replies back to the original post, each reblog in a chain now got its own separate set of notes. Tumblr called it a way to give contributors the recognition they deserve. Users were not buying it. Over 100,000 complaints were submitted through Tumblr’s feedback system. The official staff response post pulled more than 28,000 comments, most of them negative. One X user even shared a screenshot of a Tumblr post showing the before-and-after of the update. Their post had 152,372 notes in the old view. After the update, it showed 2 comments, 1,107 reblogs, and 1,673 likes. Not even two percent of the actual interaction. For a lot of creators, the problem was not just how it looked but that they had no way of knowing how far their work had actually traveled once it left their

Tumblr updated reblogs to function more like tweets and users hate it | The Verge

Jess Weatherbed is a news writer focused on creative industries, computing, and internet culture. Jess started her career at TechRadar, covering news and hardware reviews. Tumblr has overhauled its reblogging feature to add new options for interacting with chained posts, and it hasn’t gone down well with many of the platform’s users. The update announced by Tumblr on Monday enables users to like, reblog, and reply to any post nestled within a reblog chain, with subsequent reblogs having their own note counts instead of a single aggregated figure for every version of the post. Visually speaking, the changes break up Tumblr’s iconic collapsed reblog chain UI — something long considered to be a part of the platform’s core user experience — into separate posts. In its announcement for the update, Tumblr even acknowledges that “the reblog chain is one of the things that makes Tumblr unlike anywhere else.” The new experience looks closer at how reblogs behave on X, Bluesky, and Threads. And the similarities haven’t gone unnoticed by many Tumblr users who are now pushing back against the platform becoming “another Twitter look-alike,” and say the updated reblog chains are harder to follow. Users have also flagged that the

FCC Chair Brendan Carr Says Broadcasters Must “Correct Course” Amid Iran War Coverage …

FCC chair Brendan Carr said broadcasters could lose their licenses if they do not “operate in the public interest,” reiterating President Donald Trump‘s criticism of media coverage of the Iran war. “Broadcasters that are running hoaxes and news distortions — also known as the fake news — have a chance now to correct course before their license renewals come up,” Carr wrote on X Saturday as he reshared a post Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The law is clear. Broadcasters must operate in the public interest, and they will lose their licenses if they do not.” He continued, “And frankly, changing course is in their own business interests since trust in legacy media has now fallen to an all time low of just 9% and are ratings disasters. The American people have subsidized broadcasters to the tune of billions of dollars by providing free access to the nation’s airwaves. It is very important to bring trust back into media, which has earned itself the label of fake news.” In Trump’s original post, he slammed “an intentionally misleading headline by the Fake News Media about the five tanker planes that were supposedly struck down at an Airport in Saudi Arabia, and of no further
