2016 called—and celebrities actually picked up – Harper’s Bazaar India

Lo-fi selfies, throwback filters, and Tumblr-era ease are suddenly everywhere... and even the stars are in on it. If you’ve been on the internet recently, you’ve surely been greeted by diagonally shot mirror selfies with a quirky pose in frame. What feels like time-travel is just global ubiquity for 2016-esque photography. We’ve seen the nostalgia for Y2K pick up over the last decade, but the full-blown recall of 2016 might be nodding to a different realm of trend fatigue altogether. In an era defined by relentless trend cycles and algorithmic pressure, nostalgia functions as a counterpoint: a softer emotional register in an otherwise overstimulated present. And even celebrities agree. The Throwback Posts That Say Everything When a year as chaotic as 2025 passed by, with users globally echoing the same sentiment, something is refreshing about the way 2026 is unfolding so far, with less self-seriousness and hope for a fun year ahead. Across social media, creators and celebrities alike are loosening their grip on perfection. Charlie Puth leaned fully into the bit, posting a 2016-era throwback where he’s holding a thick stack of dollar bills to his ear like a phone—peak mid-2010s internet humour. The caption doubled down on the nostalgia, reading:

Mark Cuban Investment, Coachella Producer’s New Music Festival & More – Billboard

Other recent deals include Cutting Edge Group's acquisition of a prolific composer's catalog and Musical AI's latest fundraise. Sunset at Santa Monica Pier, California, USA Getty Images Marc Cuban “has made a significant investment” in Burwoodland, which produces “touring themed nightlife experiences” including Emo Night Brooklyn, Gimme Gimme Disco, Broadway Rave and All Your Friends, according to a press release. The company was founded by Alex Badanes and Ethan Maccoby. Past strategic partners have included Izzy Zivkovic (Split Second) and Peter Shapiro (Brooklyn Bowl), along with Justin Kalifowitz‘s investment and advisory platform Klaf Companies. Related “It’s time we all got off our asses, left the house and had fun,” said Cuban in a statement. “Alex and Ethan know how to create amazing memories and experiences that people plan their weeks around. In an AI world, what you do is far more important than what you prompt.” Goldenvoice, a division of AEG Presents, struck a deal with the City of Santa Monica for a new “large-scale” music and cultural festival to take place adjacent to the Santa Monica Pier in fall 2026. The festival is being envisioned as a single-day event with an estimated capacity of 30,000 to 35,000 attendees. Programming

Streaming Ratings: ‘Fallout’ Falls Off With Change From Binge to Weekly Release for Season 2

Logo text The Nielsen streaming stats for the season two premiere of Fallout are significantly smaller than those for season one in 2024 — but that’s hardly the complete picture. Fallout accumulated 794 million viewing minutes on Prime Video for the week of Dec. 15-21; season two debuted on Dec. 16. In raw numbers, that’s way down from the 2.9 billion minutes of watch time for season one’s opening week in April 2024, which stands as the best premiere for a series ever on the Amazon-owned platform. There are a couple of big differences between the seasons, however, that help account for the disparity. Prime Video released Fallout season one as a binge. In season two, the streamer opted for a weekly release, and it dropped only one episode on Dec. 16, rather than two or three as it has done for a number of other series. Nearly 800 million minutes of viewing is still a healthy number, and Nielsen says the season two premiere accounted for 54 percent (about 429 million) of the total — suggesting that had Prime Video released more episodes on Dec. 16, the number would be considerably higher. The remainder came from season one, as Nielsen

Unhappy Tumblrs look for safety nets – BetaNews

Despite Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer's promise not to "screw up" Tumblr following its recent acquisition, the move has caused some disquiet in the user community. Posting on Tumblr, of course, many users are worried about the impact advertising may have on the Tumblsphere, others that Yahoo will change the ethos of the site. There was disquiet about rumors Yahoo would push to make it more family friendly by filtering content too -- around 1 in 6 Tumblr pages is reckoned to contain porn. Despite assurances, and the fact that the circulating message about the clean up has been exposed as fake, there's a lot of distrust out there. Already websites like www.bluegrownup.com are springing up with the aim of offering disgruntled Tumblrs a new home. There’s also a tool to help users migrate their blogs to WordPress. Personally I like Tumblr, though I don’t exactly fit its cool kid demographic. I've used it since 2010 and it's the only blogging platform I've stuck with over a long period of time, mainly thanks to its ease of use and its ability to integrate content with other sites. If Yahoo can manage Tumblr in a sensitive way and preserve what’s good about

Cobb County Awarded $8.45M Federal Grant to Improve Safety on High-Risk Roads

Posted By: Larry Felton Johnson January 15, 2026 Cobb County announced in a news release on its website that it will receive $8.45 million in federal funding to enhance roadway safety along several high-risk corridors. The funding comes from the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program and will support the county’s Multi-Corridor Safety Improvements project, part of its Fiscal Year 2025 application. The $8,448,000 implementation grant is aimed at reducing fatal and serious-injury crashes across the county. The City of Mableton received a grant of $240,000 from the same program. Targeted roadways for the county’s grant include Olive Springs Road, Pat Mell Road, and Windy Hill Road—areas flagged in Cobb County’s 2023 Comprehensive Safety Action Plan as having a high incidence of severe collisions. “Cobb residents depend on our roads for daily trips to work, school, and other essential activities. This grant will help make those trips safer,” said Cobb County DOT Director Drew Raessler. “I’m proud to advance this project, which reinforces our commitment to roadway safety.” Planned improvements include new traffic signals, additional turn lanes, roundabouts, raised medians, and enhanced lighting to bolster pedestrian and bicycle connectivity and overall traffic safety. Before work can begin

SXSW Sydney Will ‘Not Proceed’ In 2026 – Billboard

South by Southwest will "conclude its run" in Sydney, organizers say. SXSW Sydney Lars Brandle Trending on Billboard SYDNEY, Australia — After three editions, SXSW Sydney is calling time. On Wednesday, Jan. 14, organizers announced that South by Southwest “will not proceed” in Sydney this year, and that the summit would “conclude its run.” The decision “reflects a changing global environment that is impacting major events, festivals and cultural programs worldwide,” reads a statement. Produced by TEG, SXSW Sydney worked closely with the NSW government and SXSW’s global owners, Penske Media Corporation, parent of Billboard, to explore potential pathways forward for the event, the statement continues. However, “prevailing market conditions” meant the Sydney leg “will not be going ahead at this time.” Related SXSW Sydney’s brief lifespan was bright, and busy. According to a statement from TEG, the event generated an estimated A$276 million ($184 million) in total economic impact across its three-year run, presented in October at the start of the Australia’s long, hot summer; attracted more than 63,000 out-of-region attendees; and recorded a 35% year-on-year growth in international visitation between 2024 and 2025. For last year’s final SXSW Sydney, more than 345,000 attendees attended its showcases, panels, keynotes and more, a 15% year-on-year increase. A social
