While Scientists Race To Study Spread of Measles in US, Kennedy Unravels Hard-Won Gains

This article by Amy Maxmen first appeared in KFF Health News, republished with permission. Amy Maxmen December 5, 2025 The United States is poised to lose its measles-free status next year. If that happens, the country will enter an era in which outbreaks are common again. More children would be hospitalized because of this preventable disease. Some would lose their hearing. Some would die. Measles is also expensive. A new study — not yet published in a scientific journal — estimates that the public health response to outbreaks with only a couple of cases costs about $244,000. When a patient requires hospital care, costs average $58,600 per case. The study’s estimates suggest that an outbreak the size of the one in West Texas earlier this year, with 762 cases and 99 hospitalizations, costs about $12.6 million. America’s status hinges on whether the country’s main outbreaks this year stemmed from the big one in West Texas that officially began Jan. 20. If these outbreaks are linked, and go on through Jan. 20 of next year, the U.S. will no longer be among nations that have banished the disease. “A lot of people worked very hard for a very long time to

Mystery over Dale-owned Eyton Hall manor house, Leominster – The Hereford Times

A “deteriorating” manor house on a Herefordshire farm can now be partly turned into the base for a local on-call firm – though the nature of their work remains unclear. The nineteenth-century, three-storey Eyton Hall, near the village of Eyton northwest of Leominster, is owned by the Dale family which also owns the Frank H Dale steelworks in the town. A planning application lodged in May last year proposed reducing its current 17 bedrooms to nine, with the freed-up space to be occupied by office and “research and development” space, plus four bunk rooms and a new on-site sewage treatment plant. RELATED NEWS : Plans for new offices at Dale family's Eyton Hall Construction underway at new Leominster medical centre Leominster's 'bypass' plans have been rethought The commercial part of the building had been designed with an unnamed local firm in mind, “has outgrown their current premises within the county”, the application says. The building, which is not heritage listed, has lain empty for the last two years, and “its condition allowed to deteriorate”, it added. What are your thoughts? Wildman’s shop undergoing forensic audit following legal battle over estate – Cobb Courier

By Rebecca Gaunt The future of the controversial downtown Kennesaw shop Wildman’s Civil War Surplus is unknown as the late owner’s estate undergoes a forensic accounting and audit after a yearlong court battle between trustees. The store has occupied its spot at 2879 North Main St. since Dent Myers opened it in 1971. It has drawn controversy for its Confederate memorabilia, racist collectibles, and Ku Klux Klan robe on display. Confederate flags and a sign proclaiming “White History Year” are displayed on the exterior of the shop. Marjorie Lyon, a friend and employee of Myers, was named a co-executor and co-trustee of his estate, alongside Myers’s sister Janice Bagwell. Lyon obtained a new business license following Myers’ death at age 90 in 2022 and reopened the store. Former city council member James “Doc” Eaton resigned in protest over the city’s decision to issue the license. Bagwell filed for a temporary restraining order and interlocutory injunction against Lyons in November 2024. She alleged that in 2019 Myers signed a handwritten addendum to the 2013 trust appointing Bagwell the sole trustee, and that it terminated the original provision that Lyon would continue operating the business and maintain the home. Lyon has accused

The 10 Biggest Live Music Stories of 2025: Live Nation Lawsuits, Ticket Prices & More

The year in live music included investigations into Live Nation, the indictment of a top Oak View Group exec, ticket sale shifts and more. Billboard.com On its face, the annual numbers for the concert industry don’t look particularly great as 2025 comes to a close. Ticket sales from the Billboard Boxscore Year-End charts are effectively flat this year, down a fraction of a percent over 2024, with attendance and total show count all stagnant for the year. Live Nation’s share price isn’t faring much better — after years of double-digit growth, the company’s stock is down about three-and-a-half points for the year.  Related Normally, this stagnation would be concerning for a concert business facing increased expenses due to inflation, rising energy prices and pressure from performing rights organizations to pay more for the compositions performed in their venues. But many in the concert business say the stagnation represents both a positive pause on rapidly rising ticket prices and structural changes that some hope will bring a needed shake-up to the industry. For the first time in five years, average ticket prices did not increase in 2025, according to the Billboard Boxscore chart. Also, 2025 saw a record-low number of mergers and acquisitions, due in large part to continued pressure from the Department of

Kevin Mazur/Getty Images Trending on Billboard A jury has held celebrity gossip blogger Milagro Gramz liable for defaming Megan Thee Stallion and reposting a deepfake pornographic video of the rapper in the wake of her shooting by Tory Lanez.   A federal jury in Miami determined in a Monday (Dec. 1) verdict, reviewed by Billboard, that Gramz harmed Megan with her social media antics and awarded $75,000 in damages. That number will likely grow later on, since Megan won on a Florida law with a fee-shifting provision that could require Gramz to reimburse some of her hefty legal bills from the elite firm Quinn Emanuel. “We’re thankful for the jury’s commitment to reinforcing the importance of truth, accountability and responsible commentary on social media,” said one of Megan’s lawyers, Mari Henderson, later on Monday. “This verdict sends a clear message that spreading dangerous misinformation carries significant consequences.” A lawyer for Gramz, Jeremy McLymont, said in a statement, “We remain proud of the defense we presented and of Ms. Cooper’s willingness to stand up
