Twitch has added mandatory content labels for all streamers so that viewers "can make informed choices", and gone into some detail about what behaviours it wants labelled from now on. The labels replace the existing "Mature Content" toggle and can be applied or removed at any point during a broadcast.The "Content Classification Labels" are:Mature-Rated GamesSexual ThemesDrugs, Intoxication, or Excessive Tobacco UseViolent and Graphic DepictionsSignificant Profanity or VulgarityGamblingTwitch goes on to warn that should streamers fail to accurately label their content, the label will be applied by Twitch and they'll receive a warning. Should streamers persist after multiple warnings, their account can be locked for "days or weeks" depending on the circumstances. Interestingly enough, should a streamer be playing a game rated by the ESRB as for mature audiences only, a "mature-rated" content label will automatically be applied to the stream.There's then an interesting FAQ where Twitch grapples with the big questions, such as if a streamer who swears occasionally will need the "significant profanity or vulgarity" label on their stream. It signed xQc–arguably Twitch‘s most prominent streamer in terms of watch time–for a $100 million deal, signed Amouranth for a similar deal reportedly worth $30-40 million, and then scooped up over a million new users between the signings’ June 17 announcements and now. Whether xQc and Amouranth are fully leaving Twitch isn’t clear. The streaming landscape has changed significantly in the last few months with Kick entering the fray to compete against Twitch and has signed some of the platform’s biggest names already. Thousands of social media users are flocking to the video live-streaming platform Twitch for an audience with Jesus—or, well, a Jesus-like AI chatbot—and the chance to ask all sorts of questions, most of them related to relationships and gaming. Dubbed “AI Jesus”, the video chatbot digitally embodies the stereotype of a white Jesus Christ—a bearded, blonde, and blue-eyed man standing before a blur of glowing light. The algorithm behind the chatbot allows AI Jesus to speak in a calm, monotone voice when answering questions, as his mouth appears to lip-sync the words. AI Jesus, which is different from the “Jesus AI” text-based chatbot app, is back on Twitch after being temporarily suspended from the platform on June 15 for reasons that are, as yet, unclear. Twitch has tried to save face by announcing a 70/30 sub revenue split after many streamers have called to boycott the platform. Now, it looks like the long-awaited 70/30 split is not even relevant to the majority of streamers on Twitch. For the past few years, content creators have demanded that Twitch change its 50/50 sub revenue split to 70/30 in favor of streamers. Giving up 50% of subscriber-based income has been a major source of controversy and concern for many streamers both large and small. Then the streaming platform also announced that it planned to limit branded content, which would further disrupt streamer income. This change led to many streamers calling for a Twitch boycott and saw many large streamers finally make a move to competing platforms like Kick. Popular Twitch streamer xQc is leaving the platform for a lucrative new deal with a rival, marking the biggest exodus yet from the Amazon-owned site. The New York Times reported Félix Lengyel, a Canadian known online as xQc, is signing a two-year, nearly $70 million contract. Incentives could bump that to $100 million, according to his agent, Ryan Morrison. “This is more than most professional athletes and megastars,” Morrison said. “This is one of the highest deals in entertainment, period.” Lengyel, age 27, streams himself playing video games, keeping up a running chat with fans. He also hosts reality shows livestreamed to almost 12 million followers. He is considered by many to be Twitch’s most popular streamer. “Kick is allowing me to try and do things I haven’t been able to before,” Mr. Lengyel said in a statement. “I’m extremely excited to take this opportunity and maximize it into new creative and fresh ideas over coming years.” Twitch has been losing content creators who are not enamored with its policies and revenue cuts.
