A popular videogame streamer on the livestreaming platform Twitch has turned down a controversial sponsorship deal with Saudi Arabia worth close to $1 million following backlash across the Twitch online community. Mattew "Mizkif" Rinaudo was among several high-profile streamers who were invited to fly out to the kingdom to take part in a four-day gaming event centred on the popular Fortnite game. However, news of the sponsorship deal garnered a lot of negative online attention, raising ethical issues and the reputation of streamers taking part in the event. According to the website Game Rant, fellow Twitch streamer Pokelawls was approached by email last week. While not agreeing to take part, he leaked some of the contractual obligations regarding the sponsorship deal. These are said to include making several promotional social media posts. Twitch is currently experimenting with a couple of features that, at least in theory, would make it easier for viewers and streamers alike to have a positive experience on the streaming platform.The first feature is called Guest Star. It's supposed to make it easier for streamers to bring other people—whether they're viewers or fellow content creators—into their livestreams. Twitch wants to make it easier for creators to pull guests into their livestreams, talk show-style — and everybody gets to be a creator. The company is announcing Guest Star, a new feature that will tie into existing streaming software, allowing stream hosts to bring up to five guests into a stream and swap them in and out fluidly. Through Guest Star, streamers will be able to invite anyone with a Twitch account to hop into a stream from desktop or the Twitch mobile app. Creators can host and manage their guests directly within Twitch Studio or OBS, the tool of choice for many of the app’s more advanced streamers.
