Twitch tests new category layout and viewers have strong feelings on autoplaying video

Home News (Image credit: NurPhoto via Getty.) Twitch has rolled out one of its biggest changes to the site layout in years, though it is currently still in testing and so may not show for all viewers of the site (yet). The site has had various UI tweaks over the years, although the core design has remained pretty consistent, but the intent with this change seems to be boosting discoverability. What it actually means in practice, however, is now the hot topic among streamers and viewers. So what has Twitch done: It's changed the category layout. When you click on a game or topic you're interested in watching a stream of, the site used to take you to a browsable grid view of all current livestreams, ranked by viewer count. The new layout replaces this with an auto-playing video of the current most-popular stream, which dominates the screen real estate, and a single line of other available streams can be scrolled-through at the bottom. Here is what it looks like (opens in new tab). The first and most obvious bone of contention is autoplaying video. Boy do people hate autoplaying video and, yes, I realise the irony of these words. Twitch's thinking…

Since his comeback, each stream has pulled in more than one million views. 06.21.22 (@adinross via Instagram) Many teen boys love to play the well-known video game series NBA 2K by themselves or online with friends. An 18-year-old from Boca Raton, Florida, did just that but on the live streaming platform, Twitch. He even skipped his high school prom because of his dedication.  Now 21 years old, Adin Ross is one of the most popular broadcasters on Twitch.  He began his Twitch career in October 2018 and now has 4.1 million followers. He makes money through subscriptions and ads. However, success does not come without controversy. On April 20, Ross received an “indefinite ban” from the platform due to the alleged use of “hateful slurs, hate symbols, or hate group emblems without context or in a harmful manner.”  Ross claimed that he wasn’t aware why that was the reason. About six weeks later, on June 4, Twitch lifted the ban. He dropped a video teaser later that day, promoting his long-awaited return to Twitch. Two days later, he returned to Twitch for almost five consecutive hours, racking up nearly 100,000 viewers —  one of the biggest Twitch-ban return streams seen…

Mizkif joins xQc and HasanAbi Twitch drama: 'I don't like the idea of trying to rate streamers'

Just as it seemed last week’s xQc and HasanAbi drama had petered out, fellow Twitch streamer Mizkif has stirred things up again. For those out of the loop, xQc and Hasan recently had an online feud after xQc streamed himself making a Twitch streamer tier list. After finding out that he had been placed in the ‘B’ tier, Hasan had a public rant on Twitter, and then privately on his Discord server. Hasan had several choice words to say about xQc, and in response, xQc called Hasan’s outburst ‘disgusting.’ It’s a whole kerfuffle. Now, another Twitch streamer by the name of Mizkif, real name Matthew Rinaudo, has uploaded a YouTube video titled, ‘Regarding My Friends…’ in which he responds to the recent drama, and answers the question of if he will ever make a tier list video himself. He had this to say about the matter: ‘I don’t want to. It’s gonna just make people upset with me … I don’t want people to get mad at me, over something that is just a 20-minute piece of content in my stream. It’s just not worth it to me.’ Mizkif also expressed his thoughts on what it means to publicly create…

Streamer spends $15K on Diablo Immortal, finds 5-star gem, and quits – TweakTown

Twitch streamer Quin69's quest is finally over: After spending over $15,000 on Diablo Immortal, he has finally found a single 5-star legendary gem. The odds of finding a 5-star legendary gem in Diablo Immortal are astronomically against you. We put the odds at 1 in 2000 for a 5-star legendary gem dropping, which basically means you'll spend thousands of dollars on Legendary Crests.Case in point: Streamer Quin69 spent over $20,000 NZD (about $15.7K USD) on Diablo Immortal's Legendary Crests before he found a single 5-star legendary gem. Once he actually found one, Quin69 did the unthinkable: He broke the gem down to infuse a useless 1-star gem, deleted his character, and uninstalled the game for good."It was an honor to whale with you," Quin69 told his in-game warband shortly before deleting his character. "I must say goodbye.""Fuck you, Blizzard," Quin69 said to his audience live on stream, then deleted his Diablo Immortal character. "Can you believe Blizzard put that out? Can you believe they put their name to that shit?"The last time we checked in with Quin69, the streamer had spent about $6,000 USD on Diablo Immortal on June 8. Now he's done with the game and is moving on…
