ALGS playoffs show a viewership boom for Apex esports after a quiet regular season – Dot Esports

The ALGS Pro League had solid but not spectacular viewership numbers during its first split. Many of those regular-season matchups averaged less than 10,000 viewers in two of the game’s most popular regions, North America and EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa), according to TwitchTracker. But save your cries of “dead game” for another time. When the Pro League playoffs came around, Apex Legends fans turned out in droves. Whether they were driven by the ability to earn in-game cosmetics from Twitch drops, the larger prize pools ($250,000 in NA and EMEA), or the high-stakes match point format, this weekend saw an explosion of total viewership for the battle royale. At one point during last night’s North American finale, over 300,000 people tuned in to the action arcoss multiple Twitch channels, according to TwitchTracker, continuing a strong showing from other regions like the APAC North matches on Jan. 22. The official stream saw an average of about 55,000 viewers over the course of the North American finals, according to TwitchTracker, putting it on par with 2021’s ALGS Championship. Considering the matches this weekend only marked the halfway point of the ALGS season, that portends a bright future for the…

People Are Already Streaming Pokémon Legends Arceus Gameplay On Twitch – Kotaku Australia

Screenshot: Twitch The upcoming Pokémon Legends Arceus is a game that fans have been absolutely frothing for. The first open-world, real-time game in the series officially releases on Friday, however, some have already managed to get their hands on it. Not just that, but they’re streaming it too. While I don’t condone illegal activity, I’m personally quite enjoying being able to see gameplay of the game early. If you’d like to see it for yourself, they’re very easy to find on Twitch on the Pokémon Legends Arceus section of the streaming website. On the other hand, how on earth are people already playing and streaming the game? Considering The Pokemon Company’s general secrecy when it comes to releases, with most publications only getting copies of the game on the day of launch, this comes as a surprise to many. VGC spotted on social media that players have somehow gotten their hands on the game files and have been sharing them online, allowing others to emulate the game on their computers. Screenshot: Twitch According to one streamer who won’t be named, he’s playing the game on a Ryujinx emulator with the .xci file type. The streamer says that he is currently halfway through…

China is spending $300,000 to get US influencers to share positive social … – Business Insider India

Chinese officials have hired a US-based media firm to help promote China and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Vippi Media signed a $300,000 deal to employ influencers to create content across TikTok, Instagram, and Twitch. The Chinese government is turning to social media influencers to help improve its tarnished image ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympic Games next month in Beijing. Vippi Media, a New Jersey-based firm, signed a $300,000 contract with the Chinese consulate general in New York to organize a social media campaign that promotes positive messaging about China and the Beijing Games on TikTok, Instagram, and Twitch. The agreement, registered with the US Department of Justice, began in November and runs through March 2022, when the Winter Paralympics ends. The contract comes as President Joe Biden and officials in Great Britain, Canada, and Australia declared a "diplomatic boycott" of the games in December to denounce China's record of human rights abuses, including the treatment of its Uyghur population of Turkic Muslims and the handling of tennis star Peng Shuai's accusations of sexual assault against a high-ranking Chinese official. China continues to deny allegations of human rights abuses in its territories and people have expressed concern about the…

Streamer accidentally removes all 6000 followers from channel while attempting to purge bots

Twitch streamer Evan Gao housed over 6,000 followers on his rising channel before a tragic accident struck the content creator, effectively resetting his channel progress. Curious as to why all 6,000 users suddenly stopped following his channel, another person on Evan’s broadcast explained the situation. In an attempt to purge bot followers from his channel, the Twitch streamer used a program to filter out suspected bots. There was only one fatal flaw in Evan Gao’s plan: He forgot to set any filters. “Dude, are you kidding me? Is there a way to undo that?” Evan Gao exclaimed upon finding out that he mass blocked his audience. Unfortunately, there is no way of gaining back followers once you have lost them outside of the viewers voluntarily re-following the channel. The filter system immediately blocked every follower, automatically unfollowing them from Evan’s channel. An hour following the unfortunate event, Evan checked out the sudden decline in his Twitch metrics. The graph showing followers over time saw a sudden, almost comical sharp downturn to zero. Thankfully, Evan saw the humor in the situation, admitting “that is actually a nice looking graph. That’s nice, dude.” Since the mass block, Evan has slowly but surely…

German Online Streaming Star Faces Backlash for Selling Nazi Armband NFT – Algemeiner.com

German Twitch gamer Marcel Eris, also known as MontanaBlack. Photo: Screenshot. One of the most popular content creators on the video live streaming platform Twitch came under fire this week for promoting a non-fungible token (NFT) with artwork that featured a Nazi swastika armband. German streamer MontanaBlack, whose real name is Marcel Eris, boasts 4.3 million followers on Twitch and 1.1 million on Twitter. On Tuesday, he led an NFT giveaway on Twitter in collaboration with the Kongdo Club, a creator of the cryptocurrency-based digital assets that are bought and sold like works of art. One of the prized NFTs featured an avatar of a monkey wearing an armband with a swastika. Shortly after uploading the post, the hashtag “#Monte” began trending on Twitter as social media users expressed dismay and outrage, according to the German-language online outlet Watson. MontanaBlack, who in 2019 was ranked as Twitch’s most subscribed channel, has since deleted the Twitter post, while Kongdo Club apologized for the artwork on Tuesday. “To clarify the swastika on our art, we had no intention of releasing this with any hate speech,” Kongdo Club said. “It has been removed from all art and we deeply apologize for this confusion.…
