Jay-Ann Lopez knew she could do better. She was in college, and two of her friends were racking up views on YouTube with a gaming channel that was offensive at worst, mediocre at best. They used African American Vernacular English for cool points, made jokes that turned femininity into a punchline, and generally just churned out one clichéd bit after another. Watching them gain notoriety was disheartening. Lopez decided it was time to start a channel of her own. What she created evolved into a platform connecting Black women gamers all over the world.Born and raised in London, Lopez started playing video games when she was just 6 years old, after receiving her very first console, a Nintendo, from her uncle. During a recent live stream, popular YouTube streamer Rachell “Valkyrae” Hofstetter revealed that hackers threatened her for a year before she was hacked in 2019.Back in 2019, the streamer’s Instagram account was initially hacked. This was then followed by Valkyrae’s Twitch account and other social media platforms also getting compromised, something the streamer says was obviously very stressful.The hackers in question had even gone live on her Twitch account, although Valkyrae claims that she was prepared for the eventuality in advance. Hackers are using Twitch to launder a massive $10 million haul. Hackers in Turkey are suspected of laundering $10 million (£7.32 million) through the streaming service Twitching. Twitch has stated that it will “not hesitate to take decisive measures” if necessary. Hackers are said to have used the streaming service Twitch to launder $10 million (£7.32 million). According to multiple sources, the operation netted Turkish hackers a large quantity of money. The scam was discovered last month after a gang of anonymous hackers divulged user payout information by leaking the source code of Twitch, which is owned by Amazon. Users in Turkey quickly noticed something strange: streamers with little to no following were making thousands of dollars using a site called Bit, which allows viewers to express their gratitude to the presenters with special paid emojis, according to MiddleEastEye. Individual streamers have been found to be making up to £1,500 per day despite having just 40 to 50 total viewers, according to the site, which passes one percent of revenue generated through Bit to them.
