Image source: Gaming4Life, supplied Sony Foundation’s GAMING4LIFE charity drive returns this month. GAMING4LIFE is an annual series of charity live streams, this year running from November 1 to 30. Funds from this year’s drive will go to the Sony Foundation’s You Can Stay program, which assists youth cancer patients living in regional areas travelling to city hospitals to receive medical care, putting a roof over their heads for the duration of their stay. The goal is to hit $50,000 in donations to fund 500 one-night stays at a Quest serviced apartment close to each patient’s hospital. Given the physical and monetary cost of travelling so far for treatments, not having to worry about accommodation would be a huge weight off the shoulders of families already doing it pretty tough. The charity drive is a month of live streams hosted by popular Australian Twitch streamers. Familiar names like MaxiGeek, HolmesinFive and StormyPlays will appear throughout the month. Twitch has now launched the test of its paid boost feature, but streamers aren't impressed.The feature was announced during the Patch Notes video on 30th September and allows viewers to pay to boost a streamer to a front page slot for extra promotion.It's live now, but currently only available for US viewers. It can be difficult to 'make it' as a full-time streamer, but Pokimane (aka Imane Anys) thinks there's a better way to nurture budding internet broadcasters. The well-known Twitch personality is co-founding RTS, a talent management and brand consulting company that plans to fix "what is broken" for both game streamers and esports. The firm will rethink management to help creators run a "stable business" that survives in the long run, and to support game developers and other brands wanting to make a significant impact. Pokimane saw RTS tackling the problems she and others faced getting started. There are plenty of talented streamers who are "spinning their wheels on basic stuff" and forging partnerships that don't work for either side, she said. Buried in the announcement is the weirder, more interesting detail that RTS is the very same company that purchased the beloved fighting game tournament EVO with Sony earlier this year.The RTS website describes EVO as "jointly operated by Sony & RTS," and says "the premier event brings together all elements of the FGC in an annual celebration of the community and competition."
