Twitch Megaleak Reveals Amazon's Alleged Plans For A Steam Competitor | Ubergizmo

Last week, it was revealed that Twitch had suffered a massive data breach in which information about the platform was stolen. This contained data like Twitch’s source code, payout information to streamers, and a rather interesting tidbit of information, such as how Amazon could be looking to build its own Steam competitor.Steam, for those unfamiliar, is a digital storefront for games by Valve. It has become more or less the de facto platform to purchase video games online. According to a tweet by Twitter user @Sinoc229, as part of the data breach, it was discovered that Amazon could be working on their own version of Steam which they have cheekily codenamed “Vapor”. Grabbed Vapor, the codename for Amazon's Steam competitor. Seems to intigrate most of Twitch's features as well as a bunch of game specific support like fortnite and pubg. Also includes some Unity code for a game called Vapeworld, which I assume is some sort of VR chat thing. pic.twitter.com/4KeeEOspyQ — Sinoc (@Sinoc229) October 6, 2021It seems that Amazon is hoping to leverage Twitch’s user base because based on the findings, Vapor will apparently integrate a bunch of Twitch’s features into it, presumably livestreaming, and will also offer support for…

Dead By Daylight Might Not Work On Steam Deck At Launch – Screen Rant

In a recent Q&A livestream, Dead By Daylight developers revealed anti-cheat software issues are preventing the game's Steam Deck port upon its launch. Although Dead By Daylight developers previously confirmed it would support Valve's soon-to-be-released Steam Deck, a recent Q&A revealed the survival horror game won't be available on the console when it launches. The Steam Deck was expected to run Steam's entire library, but recent reports reveal some games won't be supported. The Steam Deck's hardware is certainly powerful enough to run any game available on Steam, the console's software is apparently incompatible with certain titles. Valve's upcoming project will use Proton - a compatibility software that enables its SteamOS to run Windows-based games. Not every game is compatible with Proton, however, and it is possible some titles will not function on the Steam Deck at launch for this very reason. However, game updates can enable compatibility with the portable console, and Proton is already a match with at least 16,000 games in the Steam library. That being said, there appears to be other factors that prevent Steam Deck support. In a Q&A on Twitch (via PCGamesN), Dead By Daylight developers revealed the horror title might not be available on the Steam Deck when the console launches in December of…

How can I change my Twitch password? – AS.com – AS English.

An anonymous hacker posted 125GB of the video-streaming platform Twitch’s data online, suggesting that there is more data yet to be released. Twitch is conducting an ongoing investigation into the data breach but in an update of the situation it informed users that all stream keys have been reset “out of an abundance of caution.” The platform also wanted to reassure users that full credit card details were not exposed and that at this time there is no indication that login credentials have been exposed, however their investigation continues. Now is as good of a time as any to beef up your security measures on your account if you haven’t already. Changing your Twitch password When creating a new password you will need to remember that it must meet Twitch's password strength requirements. The password must have a minimum of eight characters, and can include a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols. You can also use spaces to create a more memorable expression as a password with multiple words. But your password should be unique to your Twitch account. Steps for resetting your Twitch password: Log into your Twitch account Click on your profile icon (top right…

Cozy Bear campaigns continue. Facebook outages caused by internal error. Twitch breached.

Cozy Bear campaigns continue. The Russian threat group that successfully exploited vulnerabilities in SolarWinds last year (an SVR unit familiarly known as either Cozy Bear or Berserk Bear) is said, by Mandiant, to again be working against Western targets. CNN quotes Mandiant's Charles Carmakal as saying, "The group has compromised multiple government entities, organizations that focus on political and foreign policy matters, and technology providers that provide direct or indirect access to the ultimate target organizations within North America and Europe."A second, related CNN report, citing new research by Microsoft, suggests that Russian government cyberespionage groups are enjoying satisfying (for them) levels of success against Western targets. Russia, with China running second, is "still comfortable leaning into nation-state attacks."Facebook outages caused by internal error.Facebook and its subsidiaries Instagram and WhatsApp suffered widespread, lengthy outages on Monday, the Wall Street Journal reports. The incident doesn't appear to have been the result of an attack, but rather, as initial speculation tended to regard it, as the consequence of an internal error. Facebook tweeted its apologies mid-outage, and its engineering team explained the incident as follows: "Our engineering teams have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data centers caused issues that interrupted this communication. This disruption…

Sykkuno finally responds to “poor baiting” accusations amid Twitch leak backlash – Dexerto

Sykkuno has moved to quash claims he’s “poor baiting” his Twitch fans following a wave of online backlash aimed at the popular star that was originally sparked by revelations he earns upwards of $1.1 million a year from his booming streaming career. On October 6, the Twitch backend code was compromised. No Twitch streamer was left spared by the site’s monster data leak that spilled out onto the internet earlier this week; thousands of stars had their account codes and total Twitch earnings unveiled in the 135GB data drop. Among them was Sykkuno, who — along with outspoken political streamer Hasan — has been copping the brunt of the outrage from the Twitch community. According to a holdout few of the Twitch star’s 3.7m followers, Sykkuno has been “poor baiting” them. They believe he was pretending to make less than he actually does to rake in subscriptions, donations, and followers. These accusations reached a fever pitch when the 29-year-old had his average monthly earnings ($79,846) aired in the high-profile 4chan leak. On top of that, they claim he lied about missing bill payments. Now Sykkuno has responded; he flatly denied ever trying to “bait” his Twitch fans to earn more,…

Out of Twitch's 100 top-earning streamers, only 3 are women – Dot Esports

Twitch’s confirmed Oct. 6 data leak included the purported payout information of Twitch’s highest earners. In screenshots now widely shared on Twitter, the list of Twitch royalty is overwhelmingly male.  At the top of the list is the professional role-playing collective CriticalRole, a group composed of a number of popular voice actors. The rest of the top 100 streamers on the list are entirely male except for three female streamers. Moroccan-Canadian variety streamer Pokimane sits at No. 39 on the list, while American ASMR streamer Amouranth is No. 48 and German musician Sintica is No. 71.   via KnowSomething Kotaku argued that the perception that female creators are “stealing views from men” is clearly false, according to the data from this recent leak. For many, these rankings have been a wake-up call and timely reminder about the obvious lack of diversity among the platform’s most successful creators.  Twitch leak kinda put the whole "booby streamers take all the money" theory to rest eh— The Lords (@theserfstv) October 7, 2021 Upon hearing about the Twitch leaks, Pokimane spoke on her Oct. 6 stream, saying “Twitch can’t force people to subscribe to female streamers more.” She also said that misogyny likely plays a…

Interactive livestreaming service Twitch hacked – Hindustan Times

The interactive live-streaming service Twitch has been hacked. The company, which is owned by Amazon, has confirmed the breach even as it is yet to know its extent. There is clarity on some of the specific user data that has been leaked, including creator payouts on Twitch as well as the source code for the mobile, desktop, and video game console versions of the app. There seems to be a concerted effort by the hackers to share Twitch’s tools and codes rather than individual account details. An anonymous user on messaging board 4chan has released a 125GB file dump downloadable as a torrent file with the claim that it includes all of Twitch’s commit history. That includes the payout data for Twitch creators, believed to be for the last three years, or about 2.4 million streamers active on the platform. There was no confirmation about any usernames and passwords being included in the data that has been breached. That the Twitch app source code has been leaked is a matter of concern. While it is believed that Twitch usernames and passwords have not been leaked, there may be the chance that those details have been accessed by hackers, who have…
