MANILA, Philippines — The country's premiere campus esports program, AcadArena, is now accepting applications for their scholarship programs. Launched last September 2020, AcadArena, in partnership with Globe Telecom, opened the Globe-AcadArena Merit Esports Scholarship to all aspiring students from accredited student organizations under AcadArena's Alliance program. Besides the Globe-AcadArena Merit Esports Scholarship for Competitive Merit and Leadership Merit and the Globe-AcadArena Good Game Grant (G3)-Family, which were awarded at the AcadArena awards last February, AcadArena is introducing four new scholarships awarded every month. The Globe-AcadArena Good Game Grants will now be awarded monthly. Besides the Family category, it will now also have a Study category focusing on helping student gamers with the completion of their research. The Globe-AcadArena Good Game Grant (G3)-Study will give one student-gamer a funding of up to Php10,000 for their research or thesis needs per month. For its second season, NFT fashion and beauty event Crypto Fashion Week secured major brand partners. Featuring its first makeup look minted into an NFT, NYX Professional Makeup served as the official beauty partner of the event that ran from September 10-17. Rebecca Minkoff also participated, with one of its NFT outfits featured. Since the first Crypto Fashion Week was held in February 2021, multiple mainstream fashion and beauty brands have joined the NFT wave. For brands, participation offers the chance to get in on NFTs’ hype and devoted community. YouTube creator Sweeneytv, known for his own “Twitch mod” parodies, made a grave error in selecting his own for his stream. He gave a random viewer mod powers after his chat descended into chaos, and it only got worse from there. YouTube and Twitch stream moderators hold a lot of power: They make sure they keep the chat clean and stop any bad eggs. You have to trust them as a streamer. Twitch Rivals is hosting the Guilty Gear Strive Team Showdown sporting a $20,000 prize featuring 16 of the best competitors across North America and Japan including Hotashi, Mike Ross, BC|Apologyman, PG|Kizzie Kay, Octopimp, Reynald, Honzo Gonzo, Cloud805, BNBBN, ClearLampO, Daru, Nage, Roi, RF, PurePure and Churara. This special tournament will be implementing a round robin format, so we'll get to see all eight players in their respective region face off against the entire team across the ocean. The influence of professional gamers and other streaming personalities has grown exponentially throughout the last decade. Trendsetters like Tyler "Ninja" Blevins have shattered the barrier between "Internet fame" and genuine, mainstream celebrity. But Twitch and YouTube's business models have their drawbacks, likely needing serious changes in the coming years. One potential catalyst for change is competition, and the forthcoming streaming platform Galaxis could shake things up. One hallmark of Galaxis is a streamlined copyright licensing system that automatically deducts proceeds from the channel using materials, according to CEO Max Gallardo, which could aleviate many of the bulk copyright strike content bans that have plagued creators. That alone could make waves in the industry, but arguably the platform's largest change is in how it approaches corporate contracts.
