Content creator and professional Fortnite player Daequan Loco has his first livestream on Twitch after a nearly two-year absence. In 2019, Daequan Loco was a member of the professional US esports organization Team SoloMid, known as TSM. He was also an extremely popular Twitch and YouTube content creator with millions of followers, regularly playing Fortnite and seeming at the top of his game. Then in January 2020, Daequan announced that he would be taking a break in order to focus on his health. Daequan had spoken in the past about how an undiagnosed physical illness was affecting his life and had led to depression. He had taken brief breaks throughout 2019 because of this, and fans wished him the best and expected the content creator to make a quick return as usual. Daequan sporadically posted updates on Twitter throughout the year, livestreamed on Twitch once in March 2020, and promised to return to regular streaming soon. Twitch streamer and Dungeons and Dragons Dungeon Master Jeremy “Arcadum” Black has released a statement responding to grooming, manipulating, and other allegations levied against him earlier this week. In the statement, Black apologized to the women negatively affected by his actions, although he claimed to have never entered into a relationship with the women for sexual reasons. “I never sought out relationships purely for sexual purposes,” Black said. “To be absolutely clear, I have never engaged in nonconsensual activity. These were relationships that developed as genuine friendships. I greatly valued these friendships and still do, yet I have been unfair to many of them, and I am sorry for the hurt I have caused them.” As part of the allegations, one woman who came forward said they were removed from their position within Black’s community after Tiffany, Black’s wife, found intimate messages between her and Black. The new feature is a direct response to increasing reports of "hate raids" on Twitch, where streamers (generally members of marginalized communities) are subjected to ceaseless floods of racially or sexually discriminatory language from numerous user accounts.Safe Mode is a toggle in Streamlabs' dashboard that lets users clear all recent events from their chat, clear currently queued follower/host/raid, and disable follower alerts.If users have Streamlabs' Cloudbot feature enabled, Safe Mode will also put chat in emote-only mode, follower-only mode, and sub-only mode, disable chat alerts for followers, and clear chat history.According to a Streamlabs employee, streamers can also give their mods and admins access to Safe Mode features through the Streamlabs site. The young gamer’s passing at the age of 26 has left many wondering what exactly happened to her. When I was young, the early 2010s was a time of experimenting when it came to the internet. All sorts of websites were either being invented or gaining traction. Facebook was dominating the social media industry, YouTube was becoming a household name for watching video content and then there was Twitch, which was one of the first websites to capitalize on the concept of gaming streams. Being exposed to all of this change, an impressionable 12-year-old me found herself gravitating towards the side of the internet that was filled with, what we call now, gaming content. To give a brief definition of what it is, depending on the creator, gaming content is essentially recordings of another person playing video games. I remember being so obsessed with watching those kinds of videos, made by gaming creators like PewDiePie, ChilledChaos, CaptainSparklez. And whenever my parents saw me watching these types of videos so intently on my fourth generation iPod, I was always asked this question: “How do you find watching someone else play a video game so entertaining?” In hindsight, I can understand my parent’s confusion.
