Kakao to shut down personal streaming service's profit-making system

SEOUL -- South Korea's web service company Kakao will shut down the profit-making system of its personal streaming service to focus on media businesses including the production of original video content. The strategy to narrow its focus in the media content sector benchmarks that of Netflix, the American over-the-top service operator which has become the world's most popular media with endless waves of high-quality original content. A personal streaming service is provided via online video platforms. Each user called "creator" produces content that is broadcast live while interacting with audience through chats. Creators receive donations from viewers or broadcasting advertisements and share their profit with platform operators. Twitch and YouTube are the world's top two most popular personal streaming service operators. Kakao TV, the personal streaming service wing of Kakao, said it would shut down its donation and profit-sharing service in July. Creators will be allowed to keep on broadcasting their content, but they cannot make a profit any longer. "We have been working since the second half of 2020 to go through our step-by-step transformation into a video content service that offers original content similar to those offered by TV channels and cable TV services," Kakao TV…

Paige Banned From Twitch, Returning Soon

Paige got banned from Twitch, but she’s returning soon. Saraya-Jade Bevis is wondering what happened to get her account banned, and so are her fans. The news came down this weekend and just about everyone is scratching their heads at it. Comicbook.com reached out for comment and she said, "I'll be back real soon." In a time where more and more people have seen their social media accounts get zapped for nebulous reasons, Paige is just the latest story. There are some sleuths on the SquaredCircle Reddit that believe that she’s been DMCA’d. It would be hard to triangulate how and when the violation occurred. (Not to mention if it would even constitute such draconian measures.) For now, all the beloved performer can do is sit and wait for the appeals process to play out. When WWE made the move to pull back on Superstars having their own Twitch channels, Paige had some choice words about it on a stream."There may be a time where I have to stop streaming. I'll have to walk away. If I have to leave, we have to make today and Saturday fucking crazy. I've honestly gotten to the point where I cannot deal with this…

Asmongold reveals OTK might hire security after Mizkif gets harassed during IRL stream

After a random stream sniper managed to track Mizkif down and harass him during an IRL stream, Asmongold announced their OTK streaming organization might be hiring security to prevent it from happening in the future. Stream snipers have always seemed to be part of the IRL landscape, but after a recent incident occurred while Matthew ‘Mizkif’ Rinaudo was shopping for a new Porsche on Twitch with some fellow influencers, that could all be changing. While Miz was looking at a cherry-red prospect, his group suddenly came into contact with a random stranger who was apparently streaming himself as he walked right up to apparently try and confront them. After the sniper tried to engage with the group, Mizkif asked if he was also shopping for a Porsche. Out of nowhere the individual (who sort of resembled a scuffed Asmongold, funnily enough) got confrontational and brought up Miz’s history with infamous live streamer Ice Poseidon. “Brother man, you better stop pretending like you’re something you ain’t,” the sniper started saying. “IP2 always f*****g wins, let’s f*****g go.” “I don’t know, I thought that was kind of funny,” Mizkif said after they chased the stranger off. However, before leaving the parking garage,…

xQc Delays 60-Day Twitch Subathon

Ever since Ludwig broke the record for most concurrent subscribers on Twitch at a single time earlier this year, arguably the platform's most popular streamer, Felix "xQc" Lengyel, has been planning his own subathon to take the record for himself. And while this subathon was planned to finally kick off next month, xQc has now announced that he'll be pushing it back a bit later than expected.During a recent stream on Twitch held by xQc this week, the former professional Overwatch player said that he won't be starting his own subathon--which is planned to last for 60 days--in June.
