J. Cole's “Amari” Samples A Lost Timbaland Beat From A Twitch Stream

J. Cole reveals how he ripped Timbaland's Twitch stream for the "Amari" beat. J. Cole easily dropped off one of the best hip-hop albums of the year with his latest opus The Off-Season. The 12-track body of work is unlike his other offerings in many ways but it was his desire to work outside of his comfort zone that truly helped him take the project to another level. He enlisted heavy-hitting producers, along with top-tier rappers, to flesh out The Off-Season.Kevin Winter/Getty ImagesAmong the many highlights on the project, it's "Amari" that's likely going to maintain a steady rotation in the coming months. Timbaland does have co-production credits but his involvement on the track was unconventional, to say the least. Apparently, J. Cole frequently seeks inspiration in Timbo's Twitch streams which end up on YouTube. One particular video caught Cole's attention but he was reluctant to reach out to Timbaland to ask for the beat, in case he never ended up using it."So I looped up the YouTube lil' rip, made a whole song on this shit. I spent the next two days writing and recording the song, and right when I was 90% through writin' it, I was like, I should probably…

Twitch Suspends Ad Revenue For Amouranth After Hot Tub Streams

Kaitlyn "Amouranth" Siragusa announced that Twitch has suspended advertising on her channel. The Twitch hot tub controversy continues today as popular Twitch streamer and one of the leading originators of the "Hot Tub Meta," Kaitlyn "Amouranth" Siragusa announced that Twitch has suspended advertising on her channel. While the streamer claims no reason was given for the ban, it comes suspiciously after her rise in popularity due to the controversial hot tub streams. Siragusa took to Twitter today to share the news and call out the Amazon-owned service on their suspension policies and this "alarming precedent" they have established. In her posts, she talks about how Twitch did not reach out to her prior to the suspension of ad revenue and that she had to initiate the conversation. She states that this lack of warning is a precedent that all streamers should take note of and be aware of the fact that "although content may not ostensibly break community guidelines...Twitch has complete discretion to target individual channels and demonetize them." Yesterday I was informed that Twitch has Indefinitely Suspended Advertising on my channelTwitch didn't reach out in any way whatsoever. I had to initiate the conversation after noticing, without any prior warning, all the ads…

Twitch Lowers Subscription Prices In Most Countries

One of the ways Twitch streamers can make money is through subscriptions, where people can subscribe to their channel for a monthly fee. Twitch then takes a cut and the rest goes to the streamer. For the most part, the cost of these subscriptions aren’t prohibitively expensive, but due to things like inflation, it can feel a bit expensive for some. The good news is that Twitch has since announced that in order to better reflect the cost of living in some countries, they will be lowering the cost of subscriptions for certain parts of the world. For example over in Mexico, the cost of a Twitch sub has been reduced to 48 Pesos a month, which is roughly $2.40 and is about half of what it would have normally cost.Over in Turkey, it has dropped even lower where it will be 9.90 TRY which is about $1.20. The changes are expected to apply to other regions like Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East in the third quarter this year. This is good news for those who are watching streams in other countries who might find the $5 price tag a bit too expensive.Obviously this means that streamers…

xQc Comments on Cheating Following QTCinderella Schooled Controversy

Cheating tends to be a hot button topic in gaming, but sometimes it's difficult to prove whether it happened. Twitch Streamer QTCinderella recently appeared on Mizkif's Schooled, and some accused her of changing her answers based on what viewers were posting in the chat. QTCinderella happens to be dating streamer Ludwig Ahgren, who called the accusations "crazy." In a Just Chatting session, Felix "xQc" Lengyel decided to weigh in on the controversy. The streamer claimed that he makes a concerted effort to take away any possibility of cheating to avoid similar accusations, and chat can be considered a form of cheating."This is my real true take about this," said xQc. "This is why, whenever we start playing Among Us or other games, whatever – or any games at all like this. It’s why I always make an effort to close the monitor. Why? Because I believe that cheating is black and white. It’s not really a grey area, right? Either you cheat or you don’t cheat. Whether you cheat a little bit with chat, or a little bit with emotes or whether you meta game a little bit... you’re all in black dude. That's kind of how it is."xQc…

CRAWFORD | No goals, but a point for Racing Louisville in its NWSL regular-season opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Racing Louisville FC opened its first regular season in National Women’s Soccer League competition by scoring a point – but not a goal. The 0-0 tie with Kansas City on Saturday was the club’s second straight clean sheet, going back to its NWSL Challenge Cup Finale at Gotham FC.But coach Christy Holly’s expansion club still had trouble converting chances, especially early in the game. One of the best came when Savannah McCaskill got free along the baseline and sent a pass into the box that CeCe Kizer tried to lift over the head of the keeper, but sent it in just a bit high. Kizer had another chance late in the half on a through ball, but couldn’t shake the defense and the chance didn’t materialize.“I think the first thing that we look at is another clean sheet. That’s back-to-back clean sheets. We limited them to a few good chances. They had Amy Rodriguez, Darian Jenkins, Mallory Weber and Victoria Pickett. To limit a team like that, and not only keep a clean sheet, but to limit them to smallea chances is something good we take away from this. I think the frustration is that in the first half, I thought that we need to…

OL Reign v. NC Courage: TV, live stream, how to watch, schedule

OL Reign’s 2021 regular season kicks off at Cheney Stadium tonight with a match against perennial powerhouse North Carolina Courage. The game starts at 7 PM PT and will stream exclusively on Twitch. This North Carolina squad looks a little different than previous dominating years, as they are without USWNT players Crystal Dunn, Abby Dahlkemper, and Sam Mewis. The team still has plenty of goal-scoring punch, however, in Jess McDonald, Lynn Williams, Kristen Hamilton, and Debinha. The Courage will put lots of pressure on their opponents, and with a quick transition game in the midfield, they will get plenty of looks on goal. With Cheney being a slightly more narrow field, OL Reign players will need to stay close to one another defensively. Where North Carolina struggled during the preseason Challenge Cup tournament was on the defensive end. They are vulnerable defending through balls and passes into the box. OL Reign should work to get as many bodies into the box in the attack while protecting the transition game. The Tacoma club will be without a few key players in the midfield, as Quinn and Shirley Cruz are both out with injuries. This should be a good opening test for…

Angry Joe Tears Into Twitch Over Its One-Sided Approach To DMCA Takedowns

from the strike-a-match dept Famed YouTuber and Twitch streamer Angry Joe, or Jose Antonio Vargas, has made it onto Techdirt's pages in the past. True to his name, we've discussed his responses on a couple of intellectual property issues he's suffered through. When Nintendo flagged a video Angry Joe did about Mario Party 10, preventing him from further monetizing the video, he simply and angrily swore off of doing any Nintendo videos in the future, rightly noting that with the decision all the free advertising he'd given Nintendo just disappeared. When CBS blocked a review video he did because the review used 13 seconds of Star Trek: Picard, he took to Twitter to rip them to shreds as well. The point is that when Angry Joe encounters the frustrations many others deal with thanks to overly restrictive intellectual property practices, he doesn't stay silent. He gets... well... angry. With that in mind, it's probably not all that surprising that the way Twitch is handling its DMCA process has finally caught up to Angry Joe resulting in yet another angry rant. Like many other Twitch creators, Angry Joe has been hit with DMCA notices. As he goes on to note, the…
