The rise of internet influencers in mainstream cinema

From the early days of YouTube to the waning days of Vine, online platforms have created chances for anyone to go viral and make a name for themselves. For years, online content creators could gain millions of followers, but no matter how popular they became, they still belonged to a world separate from mainstream cinema and Hollywood’s A-listers. However, as the influence of social media surges, the distance between the two is slowly narrowing.   Whether streaming video games on Twitch or posting glamorous photos on Instagram, the newest online “influencers” have risen from routine life to thousands and millions of fans on social media. Some of today’s most popular influencers emerged from YouTube and its vast collection of videos. Like stars in the universe, a select few shot across the sky. Ryan Higa (nigahiga) and Felix Kjellberg (PewDiePie) are recognizable names to people who’ve never even watched their channels. Despite their popularity, for years, TV and film industries have always existed on another level.  We should celebrate when online celebrities transition to TV and film. It’s exciting for the creators to venture into something new and equally thrilling for the fans to see how far they’ve come. Liza Koshy, who started on Vine and YouTube, acted…

Blatant PUBG cheater gets banned by a dev live on Twitch

PUBG Published: 22/Nov/2020 0:33 by Alan Bernal UBG CORPORATION A known cheater in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds managed to get hit by the banhammer while he was streaming live on Twitch, creating a wave of cheers among community members. The Twitch account under question goes by the name of ‘vesprine,’ but the player himself is widely known in PUBG lobbies and online communities for perpetually making new accounts just to use cheats. “He keeps resurfacing. Same guy over and over. He tries to join Plausible and gets insta-banned,” Reddit user ‘The-Basic-Bro’ said. “He needs a hardware ban at this point. He legitimately cheats non-stop… He has joined looking for squad groups on Reddit and the last two times I have called him out and disgraced him and had him banned.” While some players want to see more stringent action taken against the player, PUBG Community Manager who goes by ‘Hawkinz’ did his part to stymie the cheater’s effect on the game. BlueholePUBG has come a long way since its launch, but hackers have still been a major problem. During one of his streams, the player had resurfaced to show off more PUBG gameplay supplemented by the use of in-game hacks. In the middle of his broadcast, he got a notification in PUBG that read: “Restricted Account – Your session will be terminated due to use of hacks.” Though not much has survived the Twitch account since he was banned, a screengrab by user ‘701dirty’ immortalized Hawkinz’s incredible response as the moment played out. According to 701Dirty, the ban happened shortly after over a hundred people clipped and reported the streamer while he was playing. Summit1g Shuts Down Rumors of Him Quitting Twitch

Jaryd ‘summit1g’ is one of the biggest names on Twitch without a doubt. He has over five million followers and an audience that doesn’t miss a single stream. So when a clip started making the rounds saying summit1g was quitting Twitch to make a video game, that obviously had people riled up. But don’t you worry, it wasn’t exactly taken in the proper context. Summit1g’s not going anywhere. Why would he give up that kind of following and income? As a former CSGO pro, Summit1g again has an absolutely massive following. He no doubt makes a very comfortable living on Twitch, so why would he stop? The clip, without any context says he (summit1g) is quitting Twitch to make a video game. Honestly? A shooter or something from someone with his level of experience would be ground-breaking. In the video, Summit1g said the following: “I have decided that I am going to end my contract with Twitch and take on the next chapter of my life, which is making a video game. So, I’m out.” Summit1g looks very serious about quitting Twitch in the clip. Clips are very short though, so you miss the greater context. After the clip, Summit1g starts laughing about it. Ending his streaming career would just make zero sense. On Twitter, a response was penned to people taking this as anything other than a goof: I’m surprised so many ppl fell for an out of context clip of me quitting streaming. It was a joke, not stopping anytime soon if it’s up to me. Just wanted to clear that up in case ppl come to my twitter worried lol.— summit1g (@summit1g) November 19, 2020 “I’m surprised so many ppl fell for an out of context clip of me quitting streaming. DrLupo announces all Twitch tips will be donated to charity

Entertainment Published: 21/Nov/2020 1:25 by Alex Tsiaoussidis DrLupo Benjamin ‘DrLupo’ Lupo is no stranger to philanthropy, but now he’s kicked it to a whole new level and decided to donate all future tips on his Twitch channel to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Popular streamers are widely considered to be a force for good. They entertain the masses and create tight-knit communities, and some have even made an effort to give something back. Iman ‘Pokimane’ Anys, who was named the highest-earning female streamer this year, capped her donations to five dollars and urged fans to support other causes with the excess.  Felix ‘PewDiePie’ Kjellberg did something similar. Initially, he turned off donations completely. But then he had an even better idea. He turned them back on and started donating them all to charity. Now, DrLupo is doing the same. The 33-year-old American Twitch star has been one of the platform’s most philanthropic streamers. In 2018, he raised more than one million dollars for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Then, less than a year later, he doubled that and raised over two million dollars in a 24-hour stream.  Now, he’s at it again.  DrLupoDrLupo is one of the most charitable and philanthropic Twitch streamers in the world. DrLupo is hosting yet another Build Against Cancer stream. It’s happening between December 19 and December 20, and all donations will go to the same cause.
